Description

Five channels, vehicle rated, links end to end

A heavy duty cable protector ramp for crossings that carry real traffic. Five channels take multiple power, data or hose runs at once, and a hinged yellow lid flips open for access without moving the ramp. Male and female connectors on the short ends let sections link together, so a two-lane crossing or a full site road run is just a matter of adding units.

Please read the specification notes below before ordering. This ramp is manufactured to a common pattern by several suppliers, and the published dimensions, weight and load figures vary between them. We have set out the full range rather than pick the most flattering number.

Why buyers choose it

  • Vehicle rated — specified for cars, vans and light HGVs, not just foot traffic.
  • Five channels, enough for a full AV or site power distribution in one crossing.
  • Hinged flip-open lid — add, swap or pull a cable in seconds without lifting the ramp or disturbing the other runs.
  • Modular interlocking ends — connect as many sections as the span needs.
  • Deep moulded grip tread across the black upper surfaces for foot traffic, including in the wet.
  • Weather resistant, suited to outdoor and semi-permanent installation.

Typical applications

  • Construction and civils sites where plant and delivery vehicles cross a cable run
  • Outdoor events, festivals and temporary broadcast compounds
  • Car parks and EV charging bays with a trailing charge cable
  • Depots, yards and loading areas
  • Temporary hose runs for pumping, jetting and cleaning contracts

Construction

Moulded base with five parallel channels and a full-length bright yellow lid hinged along one side. The black upper surfaces carry a deep moulded high-grip tread. Both short ends are formed as male and female connectors so units interlock in line.

Material varies by supplier. The equivalent ramp is described variously as a rigid plastic body, and as a rubber base with a PVC or PU/PE hi-visibility lid. Confirm the construction with us if it matters to your specification.

Specification

Where UK suppliers of this ramp pattern publish differing figures, the full published range is given.

Number of channels 5
Channel width 35 mm (consistent across sources)
Channel depth 35 mm to 50 mm depending on supplier
Length 960 – 970 mm
Width 500 – 590 mm
Height 50 – 80 mm
Weight 13 – 23 kg
Load capacity 10,000 – 12,000 kg. Most UK suppliers publish 12 tonnes per axle; one publishes 10,000 kg.
Maximum load per tyre 6,000 kg (published by one supplier)
Maximum crossing speed 5 mph (published by two suppliers)
Lid Bright yellow, hinged flip-open, full length
Jointing Modular male / female interlocking ends
Suitability Indoor and outdoor, weather resistant

Installation

Position the ramp across the run, flip the yellow lid open, lay the cables or hoses into the channels and close the lid. Link additional sections end to end via the moulded connectors. No ground fixing is required, though some versions of this ramp are supplied with ground-fixing points.

Maintenance

Hose or sweep the tread to clear mud and grit, which matters most for grip on outdoor installations. Check the lid hinge and the end connectors for damage after heavy vehicle use.

Suitability and limitations

  • Observe a 5 mph maximum crossing speed. Two UK suppliers of this ramp pattern publish this limit.
  • Not suitable for forklifts according to one supplier of the equivalent ramp. Point loads from small hard wheels are the failure mode to watch.
  • Do not assume the highest published load figure. Ask us to confirm the rating of the exact unit before specifying it for a crossing carrying loaded HGVs.
  • Load capacity assumes the ramp is fully supported on a firm, level surface.

No slip-resistance classification (R-rating or PTV), fire-performance rating, UV-resistance figure or warranty period is published for this product by any source we checked, and none is claimed here. The surface is described as a high-grip tread and the body as weather resistant.
