Aluminium LVT Edge Trim 27 x 6mm Square Edge End Profile for 3mm Vinyl

When a run of 3 mm luxury vinyl tile stops at a doorway, finishes against a lower floor level or ends short of a wall, the cut edge of the vinyl is left exposed — and an exposed LVT edge is usually the first part of a floor to lift, chip and collect dirt. This 27 x 6 mm aluminium edge trim closes it off. A wide tapered plate bonds to the subfloor underneath the vinyl, and a shallow square channel along the front captures the cut tile edge, leaving a straight metal line where the floor finishes.

It is worth being clear about what this profile is: an edging trim for flat floors. It is not a stair nosing. There is no anti-slip insert and no riser leg, and it is not designed to protect a step edge or to meet stair-edge visibility guidance. If you are edging a staircase, choose a purpose-made nosing instead.

Why it works

One plate to fix, one channel to finish

The extrusion is deliberately asymmetric. Behind the visible edge, the 27 mm plate tapers from roughly 1 mm down to a feather edge, so it sits under the vinyl without telegraphing a ridge through the floor covering, and the underside carries fine keying serrations that give adhesive something to grip. At the front, the channel measures 6 mm across with 3 mm of internal clearance — sized for a 3 mm LVT plank or tile — and the outer face is square, standing 5.6 mm overall.

A square edge reads as a deliberate detail

A square face gives a crisp shadow line rather than the soft ramp of a transition strip, which is what you want where a floor is meant to look finished rather than joined to something else. Because the visible aluminium is only 6 mm wide, the trim reads as a fine line around the edge of the floor rather than a bar laid across it. The tapered plate matters as much as the face: a thick, blunt-ended plate under a 3 mm plank will show as a bump long after the adhesive has gone off.

Movement joints

The manufacturer also lists this profile for concealing movement — running it along a deliberate break in the floor so the joint is covered by metal rather than left as a visible gap.

Where it's used

The manufacturer states the profile is suitable for light to medium foot traffic in commercial environments such as retail, hospitality and education, as well as domestic settings. In practice: LVT ending at a doorway or threshold; a vinyl floor finishing against screed, tile or carpet; the open edge of a raised or inset floor panel; and perimeter details where vinyl stops short of a wall, a unit plinth or a hearth.

Choosing the right option

Floor thickness first. This profile takes 3 mm LVT and nothing else. The channel is a fixed 3 mm: a thinner plank will sit loose in it, and a thicker one will not enter at all. Measure the plank itself rather than the plank plus underlay, and check the actual board — nominal thicknesses vary between ranges. A 5 mm version of the same profile is made for click vinyl.

Then length. 0.9 m suits a single doorway or a short return; 1.8 m covers most domestic room edges in one piece; 2.7 m is for long uninterrupted runs, where fewer joints means a cleaner line. Order to the length of the run and cut down, rather than butting two short pieces mid-span where the joint will always be visible.

Finish last. Match the trim to the ironmongery and door hardware already in the room rather than to the floor — it is a metal line, and it looks intentional when it agrees with the other metal on show.

Installation, use and care

Each length is supplied pre-drilled and countersunk, with screws and dowels included. Set the trim out and fix it down first, working to a clean, dry, sound and level substrate, then lay the vinyl into the channel so the cut edge is fully captured. Adhesive under the plate helps on boarded floors. Cut to length with a fine-tooth hacksaw and deburr the cut end before fitting. Clean with mild detergent and a soft cloth; avoid abrasive creams, scouring pads and solvents, which will dull the finish.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this on a stair edge?

No. It is a flat-floor edging trim with no anti-slip insert and no riser leg, and it is not made to take the wear or the foot loading a step edge sees. Use a stair nosing designed for LVT instead.

Will it take 5 mm click vinyl?

No. The channel gives 3 mm of clearance and a 5 mm board will not go in. The same profile is made in a 5 mm version for thicker click vinyl.

Does it have to be screwed down?

The trim is supplied pre-drilled and countersunk with screws and dowels, which is the manufacturer's intended method. On a sound screed many fitters bond the plate as well as screwing it; on a boarded floor the screws do the work.

Can the 2.7 m length be cut on site?

Yes. Use a fine-tooth hacksaw or a suitable powered saw with an aluminium blade, and deburr the cut edge so it sits flat and finishes cleanly.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

No external rating is published for this profile and the manufacturer lists interior applications only, so we would not specify it outdoors.
