A worn or oily aluminium ladder rung is one of the easiest ways to lose your footing partway up an extension ladder, cat ladder or fixed access ladder — and it is usually the rung, not the ladder itself, that fails first. This anti-slip GRP ladder rung cover bonds over the existing rung and gives it a high-grip, high-visibility surface in minutes, without replacing the ladder.

Why it works

The cover is moulded from glass-reinforced plastic with an aluminium oxide grit finish bonded into the surface, tested to a Pendulum Test Value of 59 dry and 55 wet — a genuine, independently measured improvement in grip over a bare metal or painted rung. Because it is GRP rather than a rubber or foam sleeve, it resists the chemical and corrosive fluids that get carried up a ladder on the sole of a boot, and it shrugs off contact with oil, grease and general workshop contamination without softening or perishing. The bright yellow finish also does a second job: it makes each rung easier to see on a ladder used in poorly lit plant rooms, roof spaces or external access shafts, reducing the chance of a missed step in the first place.

Choosing the right option

This cover is sized to fit round rungs of approximately 20mm diameter, the most common size on domestic and light-trade extension and step ladders. Measure your rung diameter before ordering; square or box-section rungs, or rungs significantly larger than 20mm, will not seat correctly in this profile. Fit one cover per rung across the full length of the ladder for consistent grip, rather than covering only the most-used rungs.

Installation, use & care

Clean the rung to remove grease, dust and loose material before fitting. Apply a bead of a suitable single-part marine adhesive sealant, such as 3M 5200, along the inside of the cover, then press it firmly over the rung and hold or clamp in place while the adhesive cures per the adhesive manufacturer's instructions. Do not use the ladder until the adhesive has fully cured. The GRP surface needs no ongoing maintenance and can be wiped down as part of normal ladder inspection.
