Description

Bare concrete or worn grass under a climbing frame is where most playground injuries actually happen, and this artificial play grass gives play areas a permanently soft, shock-absorbing surface that never turns to mud. It's built specifically for play, not as repurposed garden turf, with the fall-protection and durability that distinguishes it from a decorative lawn.

Why it works

The pile is 100% polyethylene, tufted through a PP mesh primary backing at roughly 47,250 stitches per m² and locked in with a latex secondary backing, giving a total weight of around 1,080 g/m² — a genuinely dense, durable construction built to survive running feet and play equipment rather than occasional garden foot traffic. The finished pile stands 11.5mm high for a total product height of around 13.5mm, and the whole system is water permeable at 60 L/min/m², so it drains through rather than pooling after rain. UV stability tested to DIN 53391 keeps the colour from fading under continuous outdoor sun exposure, and the surface is anti-bacterial, which matters on a surface children sit and kneel on daily.

  • Purpose-built for play – dense pile and backing built for constant running and falls, not just decorative use
  • 60 L/min/m² drainage – rain passes through instead of pooling on the surface
  • UV stable to DIN 53391 – resists fading under continuous outdoor sun
  • Anti-bacterial surface – hygienic for a surface children sit and kneel on
  • 4 year warranty – backed for genuine playground duty, not just garden use

Where it's used

School and nursery playgrounds, soft play gardens, climbing frame surrounds, trampoline areas and general play zones are the core applications, anywhere a permanently green, dry, low-maintenance surface is wanted under and around play equipment. It also suits parks and recreation areas that want the look and feel of grass without the mud, wear patches and mowing that real turf under heavy footfall demands.

Choosing the right option

Every roll is a fixed 2 metres wide, so choose the length that matches the run of your play area and plan the layout in 2m-wide strips. A 10m roll covers 20m², suiting a single climbing-frame surround or a small nursery garden zone; 15m (30m²) suits a modest playground corner; 20m (40m²) suits a larger play area or a multi-zone garden. Green is the standard choice for a natural-looking play lawn, while Black, Blue, Red, Anthracite Grey and Light Grey are used to zone different play activities, mark out games areas, or match a school or nursery's colour scheme — a common approach is one colour for a running track edge and another for the general play surface.

Installation, use & care

Lay onto a prepared, free-draining sub-base — typically compacted MOT type 1 or a purpose-made porous sub-base — never directly onto bare soil, which will undermine drainage and levels over time. Butt roll edges tightly and secure with turf pins or a jointing tape system at seams, then brush the pile with a stiff broom to lift the fibres after laying. Routine maintenance is light: brush periodically to keep the pile upright, rinse off spills, and remove leaves and debris before they compost into the pile.

FAQ

Does it need a shock-absorbing shockpad underneath? For play areas with fall equipment, a certified shockpad matched to the equipment's critical fall height is normally required in addition to the turf — this turf provides the surface finish, not the certified impact rating on its own.

Will the colour fade in the sun? The fibre is UV stabilised and tested to DIN 53391, so it's built to resist fading under continuous outdoor exposure over the product's rated life.

Can it be laid over grass? No — lay onto a proper free-draining sub-base rather than directly onto soil or existing grass, or drainage and level will suffer.

Can different colours be joined in one layout? Yes — colours can be butted together at a seam to create zoned play areas, games markings or a border effect.
