Description
Corduroy hazard warning tactile paving in 4mm glass reinforced plastic (GRP), 400mm x 400mm. The raised parallel bar profile gives a distinctive underfoot warning that tells pedestrians to take care because the route ahead changes — most commonly the top or bottom of a flight of steps. The gritted anti-slip finish keeps traction in the wet.
Why specify surface mounted corduroy
- Warns of a hazard ahead where a level or route change needs flagging
- Gritted anti-slip surface for dependable pedestrian grip
- Only 4mm thick, so it sits close to flush without creating a trip edge
- Lightweight and corrosion resistant — no rot, rust or warping
- Suits internal and external use
- Mechanical or adhesive fixing, so it works on most substrates
- Ideal for refurbishment and retrofit where excavation is not an option
What corduroy warns of
Corduroy is the hazard warning surface, not a crossing surface. It is used where pedestrians need to be told "proceed with care" — typically at the head and foot of steps, at ramp approaches, and where a footway meets a hazard. It is distinct from blister tactile paving, which marks crossing points and platform edges.
Typical applications
- Stair approaches and landings
- Ramps and sloped access routes
- Pedestrian crossings and footpaths
- Platform and platform approach areas
- Public access routes and transport locations
- Commercial and public buildings
- Refurbishment and retrofit projects

Installation
Prepare the substrate so it is sound, clean and free of loose material, oil and standing water. Set out the warning band to the depth and position required for the hazard being marked, running the corduroy bars across the direction of pedestrian travel. Fix mechanically or bond with a suitable adhesive to suit the substrate. Keep joints tight between adjacent panels, and allow any adhesive to cure fully before returning the area to use. Panels can be cut and drilled on site.
Maintenance
Brush regularly to keep the bar profile and grit surface clear. Wash with warm water and a mild detergent, or a pressure washer on a low setting, to lift ingrained dirt. No sealing or repainting is required.
Suitability and limitations
Intended for pedestrian foot traffic on sound, fully supported substrates. This is a surface applied panel, not a structural paving slab, and is not suitable for vehicle running surfaces. Correct performance depends on full contact with the substrate and appropriate fixings. Bar direction and band depth must follow current UK guidance for the hazard being marked — corduroy laid in the wrong orientation does not convey the intended warning.
Delivery
