Description

A first aid point only earns its keep if the dressings are still there when somebody needs them. This empty lockable metal first aid wall cabinet gives your stock a fixed, secure home instead of a carry case that drifts between vans, desks and drawers. It is a large unit at 60cm high, 45.5cm wide and 18.5cm deep, built from welded galvanised sheet steel with a key-locking door and two fitted shelves. It is supplied empty, which means you stock it against your own risk assessment rather than paying for a pre-packed selection you would strip out and replace anyway.

Why it works

The shell is welded galvanised sheet steel rather than folded plastic, so it takes the knocks of corridor and workshop life without splitting at the corners. The door locks with a key, and that single detail separates a genuine first aid point from an open shelf: scissors, eye wash and any medicines you hold stay where the appointed person put them, and stock checks stop turning into stock hunts. Inside, two fitted shelves split the 60cm height into three usable compartments, so dressing packs, gloves and eye wash sit in separate zones instead of one heap at the bottom. The back panel is pre-drilled for wall mounting, which keeps installation to marking, drilling and fixing. Screen-printed first aid marking on the door means staff and visitors read it as a first aid point from the far end of a corridor.

Where it's used

This is the standard fit for factory and warehouse first aid points, engineering workshops, MOT bays and plant rooms. It also suits school corridors, gyms and leisure centres, commercial kitchens, offices, village halls, farm buildings and site welfare cabins - anywhere a named first aider needs a lockable, visible, wall-fixed location, and anywhere an auditor will ask where the first aid provision actually lives.

Is this the right cabinet for your workplace?

One size, one specification, so the question is whether it fits rather than which option to pick. Measure what you already hold: each shelf gives roughly 45.5cm of width by 18.5cm of depth, which suits boxed dressings, glove cartons, triangular bandages and eye wash bottles standing upright, and the shallow depth stops items hiding at the back. Check the wall as well - you need about 46cm of clear width plus door swing, and a solid substrate for the fixings. If you want a cabinet that arrives stocked to BS 8599-1, this is not that product: choose this one when you already run your own consumables, want several sites standardised on one cabinet, or need a second point at the far end of a building.

Installation, use and care

Hold the cabinet against the wall at chest height, roughly 1.4 to 1.5 metres to the top, mark through the pre-drilled holes, then fix with plugs and screws rated for your wall. Solid masonry is straightforward; on plasterboard, fix into studs or use heavy-duty cavity anchors. Load heavier items low. Wipe the steel with a damp cloth and mild detergent, avoiding abrasives on the door marking. Keep the key with the appointed person and log the monthly stock check inside the door.

Frequently asked questions

Does it arrive with first aid supplies inside? No. It is supplied completely empty, with no dressings, plasters or medicines. You stock it from your own consumables or from a refill pack sized to your workplace risk assessment.

Is it lockable, and are keys supplied? The door has a cylinder lock, intended to restrict access to the contents. The supplier does not publish the number of keys included, so ask us first if you need spares or a keyed-alike set across several cabinets.

Can it go outside or in a wash-down area? Treat it as an indoor cabinet. No ingress protection rating is published for this line, and steel in a permanently wet or chlorinated area will not last as long as it does indoors.

Are wall fixings included? The supplier's photography shows a small bag of fixings in the base of the cabinet, but the pack contents are not stated in writing. Plan on supplying plugs and screws suited to your own wall.

Does it meet BS 8599-1? BS 8599-1 covers kit contents rather than the cabinet, so an empty cabinet is neither compliant nor non-compliant. Stock it with a BS 8599-1 refill if that is the standard you work to.
