Description

Your till point is the busiest square metre in the shop and it takes the most punishment. This flat pack cash and wrap retail counter gives you a solid checkout station without the lead time or cost of a bespoke shopfit. It arrives flat packed for self-assembly, so it will go through a shop doorway, round a tight corner and up a stairwell that a pre-assembled counter will not clear. Behind the front panel sit two rear storage levels for carrier bags, till rolls, spare stock and card terminals. You choose the width, the finish, and whether the rear stays open or is closed off with lockable sliding doors.

Why it works

The carcass is built from melamine-faced chipboard, usually shortened to MFC, which is the standard board across most volume UK shopfitting. The melamine face is what does the work. It resists scuffing from bag hooks, card machines and belt buckles, it wipes clean of biro, price-gun ink and label adhesive, and it holds its colour under strong shop lighting far better than a painted or veneered surface. Chipboard is also dimensionally stable in a heated retail space, so panels are far less prone to bowing across an 1800mm span than solid timber.

Every unit is 900mm high and 600mm deep. The 900mm height is the established UK counter height: it puts the worktop at a comfortable standing level for staff and at a reachable height for a customer paying. The 600mm depth leaves room for a till, a card terminal and a bagging area without any of them crowding each other, and the two rear storage levels keep bags and replenishment stock out of the customer's sight line but within arm's reach of whoever is serving.

  • Wipe-clean face – melamine surface shrugs off ink, adhesive and daily scuffing.
  • Standard counter height – 900mm suits standing staff and paying customers alike.
  • Two rear storage levels – bags and till rolls stay hidden but within reach.
  • Flat packed – fits through doorways and stairwells that block assembled counters.
  • Optional lockable doors – close off the rear when the shop is unattended.

Where it's used

This is a general-purpose retail service counter rather than a specialist fixture. It is bought for independent boutiques, convenience stores, vape shops, barbers, phone repair units, market hall pitches, pop-up shops and back-of-house trade counters. Two or more units are often placed end to end, or set at right angles, to build a longer serving run or an L-shaped wrap station.

Choosing the right option

Start with width. The 1200mm counter suits a single till position and a narrow shop where the aisle in front matters more than the worktop; the 1800mm gives you a genuine bagging and packing zone alongside the till, and is the better choice if two people ever serve at once or you sell bulky goods. Next, the finish. Maple reads warm and traditional and sits well against timber flooring and neutral walls; black recedes and is the usual pick for vape, phone and streetwear shops; white keeps a small unit feeling open and matches most modern shopfits. Finally, doors. An open rear is quicker to work from and cheaper. Lockable sliding doors are worth the difference where stock, cash drawers or documents are left in the counter overnight, or where the counter is visible from a shared entrance.

Installation, use and care

Assemble the unit where it will stand, on a clean flat floor, and check the parts against the enclosed list first. Build the carcass and fit the two rear shelves before you close it up, then square the unit by measuring both diagonals before tightening fully. Fit the worktop last. On door variants, fit the track first and test the lock before you load the counter. In service, wipe the melamine with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach and standing water at the joints, as chipboard cores swell once water gets past the edging.

Frequently asked questions

Does it arrive assembled? No. It is supplied flat packed for self-assembly, which is what keeps the price down and lets it reach first-floor and awkwardly accessed units. Budget for two people and a couple of hours.

Are the doors lockable? Yes. The door option adds sliding doors with a lock to the rear opening. The open-rear version has no doors and no lock.

Can I join two counters together? They are free-standing units and are routinely butted end to end to form a longer run. No proprietary joining kit is published for this line.

Will it take a heavy safe? It is built for normal counter-top equipment such as a till, EPOS screen and card terminal. No load rating is published for this line, so treat heavy safes and floor-fixed equipment as outside its stated scope.

Ordering and delivery

Pick your finish, width and door option above; each combination is priced individually and every one shown is available to order. Larger and door-fitted units are heavy, so arrange help to move the packs inside. Check the packs for transit damage before you sign, and keep the fixings sealed until you are ready to build.
