Description
The Genesis NLD Vision Step is a tile-in LED stair nosing for porcelain, ceramic and stone staircases. You bed its perforated flange into the adhesive under the tread tile, and once LED tape is fitted the profile throws a continuous line of light down the riser below. It is the right choice when you are tiling a staircase from scratch and want each step picked out at night without surface-mounted fittings or visible screws. It suits tilers, electricians and contractors, and homeowners specifying a tiled feature staircase. Supplied in a 2.8m length, anodised matt silver, in two depths for 9mm or 11mm tiles.
Why it works
Light where it is useful
Most illuminated nosings light the tread from above, which marks the edge but does little for the riser. The NLD works in a light-down configuration: the LED channel is built into the short down-leg at the front of the profile, behind a frosted polycarbonate diffuser. The diffuser spreads the output into an even wash across the riser, so you see a soft glow rather than individual diodes, and every tread edge is defined from below as well as from above.
Built into the tiling, not stuck on top
The 42mm anchoring flange is bedded into the adhesive beneath the tread tile, like a standard tile-in step edge, so there is nothing to screw down and no visible fixings. Choose the 9mm profile for 9mm tiles or the 11mm profile for 11mm tiles and the aluminium finishes flush with the tile face. The down-leg is 11.5mm deep, which keeps a slim line on the riser.
A finish that lasts
The profile is anodised aluminium in the Genesis 81 matt silver finish, which resists scuffing and needs no repainting. Matching NPC100 end caps close off the channel ends on open-sided steps.
Where it is used
Tiled staircases in hallways and open-plan homes, where the lit risers double as night lighting. Hotel lobbies, restaurants, bars and spas with feature staircases in porcelain or stone. Auditorium steps where riser lighting helps people find their footing in low light. Basement stairs in large-format tiles.

Choosing the right option
The option to select is the tile depth. Measure the actual thickness of the tread tile you are laying, not the nominal figure on the box. For a 9mm tile choose the 9mm profile, which finishes 20mm high overall; for an 11mm tile choose the 11mm profile at 22mm overall. A profile that sits fractionally below the tile face is acceptable, but one that stands proud will catch feet, so if you are between sizes pick the shallower one. Each step needs a length equal to the tread width plus a cutting margin: a 2.8m length covers two treads up to 1.4m wide or three up to 900mm. Add one NPC100 end cap per open step end. LED tape, drivers and controllers are ordered separately, and a 12V system should not run more than 10m of tape from one driver or the far end will dim.
Installation, use and care
Set the profile as you tile the tread. Apply adhesive to the step, push the perforated flange into it so adhesive comes through the holes, then bed the tread tile over the flange with the aluminium flush or marginally below the tile face. Route the LED tape into the channel, fit the diffuser, and silicone the end caps into the open ends. Wipe adhesive, mortar or grout off the visible aluminium straight away, because wet cement is alkaline and marks anodising if left. Clean with a pH-neutral detergent on a soft cloth and avoid acidic tile cleaners, which attack the finish.
FAQ
Q: Does the price include the LED tape and driver?
A: No. You are buying the aluminium profile with its frosted diffuser. LED tape, drivers, controllers and end caps are sold separately.
Q: Can I fit this to an existing tiled or carpeted staircase?
A: No. The flange must be bedded under the tread tile during tiling. For carpet, laminate or LVT stairs, or for retrofitting onto finished tiles, use a surface-mounted LED nosing instead.
Q: Which way does the light shine?
A: Downwards onto the riser below the step. The diffuser sits in the underside of the down-leg, so the tread edge stays a plain matt silver line and the riser carries the glow.
Q: Can it be cut to length?
A: Yes. Cut with a fine-tooth or aluminium blade, deburr the end and fit an end cap. Cut the LED tape only at its marked cut points.
