Description
Loose gravel that scatters across the drive, sinks into ruts or leaves puddles after heavy rain usually means the stone has nothing to key into, and this gravel grid locks decorative gravel in place to create a firm, permeable driveway or path that stays flat for years. Each interlocking honeycomb panel sits below the stone, invisible once filled and raked level.
Panels are moulded from UV-stable polypropylene in a 49mm honeycomb structure, measuring 1.2 x 0.8m and 29mm thick, with a porous geotextile membrane bonded to the underside to stop weed growth and soil migration. Each panel covers 0.96m² and overlapping membrane edges on two sides join neighbouring panels into one continuous, 100% rainwater-permeable surface. Once filled with 4-12mm angular gravel, a filled panel supports a compressive load of around 300 tonnes per square metre, comfortably taking cars, vans and pedestrian traffic.
Why fit a gravel grid
- Stops gravel migration – the honeycomb cells key into the stone so it stays where it is laid instead of scattering.
- SuDS compliant drainage – 100% permeable construction lets rainwater soak away instead of pooling or running off.
- Wheelchair and pushchair friendly – a stabilised gravel surface feels as firm underfoot as block paving.
- Weed suppression – the bonded geotextile membrane blocks weed growth from below.
- Five colours – White, Grey, Black, Beige and Pink let the grid disappear under matching gravel.
Beyond driveways, this gravel grid suits garden paths, patios, off-road parking bays and sloping ground up to a 15% gradient. Full panel dimensions, load ratings and gravel fill sizes are set out in the specification table below, along with a sizing guide to help you calculate how many panels your project needs and step-by-step laying instructions.
