A broken stringer in a racking bay stops a whole aisle, and a splintered deck board in a food or pharmaceutical area starts a conversation nobody wants to have. This heavy duty plastic pallet is a moulded 1200 x 1000 x 155mm unit in recycled HDPE, rated by the manufacturer at 1500kg dynamic, 1000kg racking and 5000kg static load. It is the standard UK distribution footprint, sized to sit squarely on conventional beam racking and to be handled with any hand pallet truck or counterbalance truck. Buy it where wooden pallets are being replaced faster than they are being used, or where nails, splinters and moisture pick-up are a problem you cannot design out of a timber pallet.

Why it works

The material. The pallet is moulded in recycled high-density polyethylene, which is why the supplier quotes a service life of over a decade rather than a handful of trips. Unlike timber, HDPE has no nails to work loose, no boards to split at the fixing, and no grain for water or product residue to soak into. The deck wipes down and drains, so a pallet that goes out into a wet yard comes back the same weight it left.

The structure. Load is carried on a semi-closed deck over a five-runner base. The dense grid of moulded apertures across the deck lets water and dust fall straight through instead of sitting under the load, while the wider solid ribs between them do the structural work. The runners spread that load along their full length, which is what allows the 1000kg racking figure — a pallet supported only at its ends behaves very differently from one sitting on a floor.

The ratings. Three figures are published because they describe three different jobs: 1500kg dynamic while the pallet is moved on forks, 5000kg static when it stands on a solid floor, and 1000kg when it sits on racking beams. Working to the right one is the difference between a pallet that lasts and a pallet that deflects.

Choosing the right pallet

Start with the footprint your racking and your loads are already built around. This is the 1200 x 1000mm UK standard, not the 1200 x 800mm Euro size, so check which one your beam spacing and your customers' goods-in are set up for before ordering. Then work to the correct load figure rather than the largest one: if the pallet will live on beam racking, 1000kg is your ceiling, and that is the number to design the load around. If you only ever block-stack on a solid floor, the 5000kg static figure applies. Loads that exceed those numbers, or that concentrate weight on one runner, are the case for the steel-reinforced version of this pallet rather than this standard recycled one. Handling, use and care

Centre the load over the runners and build it square within the footprint — an overhanging load transfers weight to the deck edge rather than the structure underneath it. Enter with forks fully home and lift level. On racking, support both 1200mm edges on the beams and never rest the pallet on a single beam. Wash the deck with warm water and a mild detergent and let it drain through the apertures; avoid solvents. Store flat when not in use, and withdraw any pallet with a cracked runner or a split corner block from service rather than downgrading it to lighter work.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be used in pallet racking? Yes, up to the published 1000kg racking load, with both 1200mm edges supported on the beams. Racking load is always the lowest of the three figures because the pallet is unsupported across the middle.

Is it suitable for outdoor storage? HDPE does not absorb water or rot, which is why plastic pallets are used in open yards. The pallet is not certified for any specific UV or temperature range, as the supplier does not publish those figures.

Does this one include the steel reinforcement? No. Steel reinforcement is offered on this pallet range for extreme loads; the version supplied here is the standard recycled HDPE pallet without it.

Does it need ISPM 15 heat treatment for export? ISPM 15 applies to solid wood packaging. Plastic pallets fall outside its scope, which is why sites shipping internationally often move to plastic. Confirm your destination's own requirements before shipping.
