Description
Loading a pallet onto a mezzanine floor means someone is standing next to an open edge the moment the forklift lifts, and a pallet safety gate stops that edge ever being fully exposed. This pivot/swing gate uses two overlapping frames on a shared axis, so one side is always closed while the other opens to receive the load. As soon as the pallet is through, the gate swings back and the edge is guarded again, with nothing for an operator to remember, clip shut or forget to close behind them.
An axis principle that removes the human error
Simpler edge protection — chains, removable bars, or a single swing gate someone has to close themselves — depends on people doing the right thing every time. The pivot mechanism in this gate removes that dependency: the two frames are physically linked, so opening one side automatically closes the other. Every gate is built from a strong welded steel tube frame and finished in high-visibility powder coat (RAL 2004 Alert Orange on the High model), so the hazard is obvious even in a busy warehouse aisle. Floor fixings are supplied for a secure, permanent installation, and because the frame is built from standard tube sections, a damaged rail or upright after a forklift knock can be replaced individually rather than scrapping the whole gate.
- Axis pivot design – one side is mechanically always closed, removing reliance on an operator remembering to shut a gate
- Welded steel tube frame – built to withstand daily forklift and pallet truck traffic
- High-visibility powder coat – marks the loading edge clearly against warehouse racking and floors
- Floor-fixed installation – supplied with fixings for a stable, permanent fit to a mezzanine or platform edge
- Field-repairable – individual tube sections and fittings can be replaced after impact damage
Where it earns its keep
Pallet safety gates are fitted wherever goods are transferred by forklift or pallet truck between floor levels: mezzanine storage floors above a warehouse or distribution centre, raised picking platforms, and elevated loading doors in factories and logistics units. Anywhere an edge is opened up to receive a pallet is a fall risk until the gate closes again, which is exactly the gap this product is built to cover.
| Model | Max pallet width | Max pallet depth | Max pallet height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Pallet Gate | 1400mm | 1200mm | 1500mm |
| High Pallet Gate | 1700mm | 1500mm | 2300mm |
High Pallet Gate overall dimensions: 2170mm (W) x 1905mm (D) x 3000mm (H), with a 1800mm clear entry width and 50mm O/D frame tubing. Minimum headroom required is 3000mm overall (2550mm at the edge). Finish: RAL 2004 Alert Orange powder coat. System type: pivot/swing gate. Typical install time is approximately 2 hours per gate.
Choosing the right model
Start with pallet size: the Standard Pallet Gate covers pallets up to 1400mm wide, 1200mm deep and 1500mm high, which suits the great majority of UK pallet and stillage loads. Step up to the High Pallet Gate if your loads run taller than 1500mm, up to a maximum of 2300mm high — for example stacked pallets, tall stillages or bulky stillage cages. Within each height, choose your protection level: the base gate covers the pivot barrier itself; Edge Protection adds a protective plate along the mezzanine-facing edge to stop pallets catching or damaging the gate on approach; Edge and Wear Protection adds both the edge plate and additional wear protection to the high-contact areas, worthwhile wherever the gate sees frequent, heavy daily use.
Installation and maintenance
Gates arrive flat-packed with floor fixings included and typically take around two hours to assemble and fix down. Regularly inspect pivot points and floor fixings for wear or movement, keep pivots lubricated, and wipe the frame down with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Damaged sections can be replaced individually using standard tube clamp fittings rather than replacing the whole gate.
Frequently asked questions
Does this gate meet UK safety regulations? Yes, it is designed to support compliance with the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and the duty of care obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, though the finished installation remains the responsible person's to assess.
Can one side ever be left open by accident? No — the pivot/axis design links both frames together, so opening one side to receive a pallet automatically closes the other.
What happens if a forklift hits the gate? Individual tube sections and fittings can be replaced without scrapping the whole unit, keeping repair costs and downtime down.
Do I need extra handrailing? If your opening is wider than the gate itself, infill handrailing is available separately to complete the barrier line either side of the gate.
Ordering and delivery
Gates are stocked and dispatched from a UK warehouse, typically within 3-5 working days, with express delivery available. They are delivered on a pallet and require a forklift to unload, so please ensure suitable unloading equipment is available on site.
