Description
A single high step or a raised threshold is often the only thing standing between independent access and needing help every time someone comes or goes. This portable folding aluminium wheelchair access ramp bridges steps, kerbs and thresholds for wheelchairs, powerchairs, mobility scooters and rollators, and folds away like a suitcase when it isn't needed.
Why the full-length hinge and aluminium build matter
The ramp folds lengthways down its centre on a hinge that runs the entire length of the ramp, not just at a couple of points, which is what keeps the surface flat and rigid under a loaded wheel instead of flexing or clattering at the joint. Aluminium construction keeps the weight low enough to lift into a car boot single-handed - even the longest model in this range stays manageable for one person - while still supporting a working load that covers manual wheelchairs, powerchairs and mobility scooters. The surface is finished with a raised tread pattern for grip in wet weather, and low profile edge trims either side stop a caster wandering off the side without creating a lip a footplate can catch on.
- Full-length folding hinge - flat, rigid ramp surface with no weak central joint
- Lightweight aluminium - the shortest model weighs from around 4.6kg
- Non-slip tread surface - maintains grip in wet or icy conditions
- Folds like a suitcase - compact for the car boot or a cupboard
- Seven lengths - a size for every step height from a low threshold to a full flight
Where it gets used
It is fitted daily at home entrances with a step up to the door, used to bridge kerbs and shop thresholds when out and about, and kept in the boot of a car to load a scooter or wheelchair, or to give access into a vehicle from a raised kerb.

Choosing the right length
Ramp length is governed by the height of the step and the gradient you need, not personal preference - a ramp that is too short creates a slope too steep to use safely. As a working guide, aim for a shallow gradient by allowing roughly 12 times the step height in ramp length for the easiest use, or a minimum of around 6 times the step height for a short, occasional-use ramp. Measure your actual step height in centimetres before ordering, and round up to the next length in the range rather than down.
Installation, use and care
Unfold the ramp fully and lay it so the lower edge sits flush with the ground and the upper edge sits flush with the raised surface, with no gap for a wheel to drop into at either end. Check the ramp is stable and centred before crossing. Wipe the tread surface clean of mud or leaves periodically so the grip pattern stays effective, and fold flat for storage when not in use.
Frequently asked questions
Can this ramp be left outside permanently? It is designed to be portable and stored away rather than left outdoors in all weathers long-term.
Will one ramp work for both a wheelchair and a mobility scooter? Yes, the range is built to take manual wheelchairs, powerchairs and mobility scooters within normal domestic weight limits.
How do I know which length I actually need? Measure the step height and use the guide above; if you are between two sizes, choose the longer ramp for an easier gradient.
