Description

A solid brass nosing with a raked back edge and a choice of three inserts, so the same profile can be specified for a dry hotel landing or a wet entrance step without changing its appearance from above.

Three inserts, three jobs

Ridged brass keeps the nosing monolithic: the insert is the same metal as the carrier, so the whole thing ages together. It is the choice where appearance leads and the stair is internal and dry.

Ridged PVC is the value option and gives more grip than brass ribs, with a colour that contrasts against the metal. It is the softest of the three and will burnish over years of heavy traffic.

CarbiGrip is the carborundum option: aluminium oxide grit in a resin matrix, the hardest of the three and the only one to specify where footwear arrives wet. It does not polish smooth and cannot peel.

The raked back

The rear edge rakes down onto the tread rather than finishing square, so the nosing fits over an existing floor covering without leaving a lip. It is the refurbishment detail: you are covering a finished floor, not being laid up to.

Choosing the right option

Insert. Wet or heavily used entrance, choose CarbiGrip. Dry internal stair where appearance leads, choose ridged brass. Somewhere between, or where a colour contrast is wanted against the metal, choose ridged PVC.

Finish. Satin brushed is contemporary; antique brass traditional; antique bronze darkest.

Length. Order the bar that covers your going in one piece, or use the cut-to-size version for anything between 250mm and 2750mm, including the 2.75 m length.

Installation, use and care

Brass is heavy; support long lengths while fixing. The substrate must be sound, clean and dry, and the existing floor covering firmly bonded where the raked edge lands. Fix at roughly 250-300mm centres with brass screws. Clean with a soft cloth and warm water; avoid abrasive creams and acidic cleaners.
