Description
Surface mounted blister tactile paving in glass reinforced plastic (GRP), supplied in boxes of ten 400mm x 400mm tiles with adhesive included. The raised blister pattern gives visually impaired pedestrians a detectable underfoot warning at crossing points, and the surface mounted format lets you install it straight onto an existing footway without excavation or heavy lifting.
Why specify surface mounted tactiles
- No excavation, no breaking out, no reinstatement — bond directly to the existing surface
- Fast enough to complete within a short possession or a single traffic management window
- Lightweight tiles that one operative can handle and cut on site
- Adhesive supplied in the box, so the pack is complete on arrival
- Tested for wear resistance, slip resistance, clean-ability and weathering
Choosing the right colour
Colour choice carries meaning at a crossing and is not decorative:
- Red — for controlled crossings (those with a signalled pedestrian phase)
- Buff — for uncontrolled crossings
Typical applications
- Pedestrian crossing points at dropped kerbs
- Retrofit accessibility upgrades in town centres and urban areas
- Temporary works, site diversions and pedestrian rerouting
- Transport interchanges, high streets and retail areas
- Car parks and private estate roads where a compliant crossing is required

Installation
Prepare the substrate so it is sound, clean and free of loose material, oil and standing water. Set out the tactile area to the crossing layout required. Apply the supplied adhesive to the back of each tile and to the substrate as directed, then position and press down firmly, working across the area and keeping joints tight. Allow the adhesive to cure fully before opening the crossing to pedestrians. Tiles can be cut on site with standard tooling to suit edges and obstructions.
Maintenance
Sweep or brush regularly to keep the blister profile clear of grit and debris. Wash with warm water and a mild detergent where needed. A pressure washer on a low setting may be used. No sealing or repainting is required.
Suitability and limitations
Suitable for pedestrian footways and crossing points in external and internal locations. This is a surface mounted product and is not a structural or load-bearing paving slab — it is not intended for trafficked carriageway running surfaces or for use where vehicles will turn on the tiles. Correct performance depends on a sound substrate and full adhesive contact. Colour selection and crossing layout must follow current UK guidance for the crossing type; if you are unsure which surface applies, take advice from the highway authority before ordering.
Testing
This tactile paving system has been independently assessed for wear resistance and slip resistance by SATRA Technology Centre, and for clean-ability by 4-Rail Services. UV colour-fastness and freeze/thaw weathering have also been tested.
Delivery
Sold by the box of ten tiles. Buy the number of boxes you need for the crossing area — one box covers 1.6 m². Contact us if you need a full take-off for a scheme or a colour not shown.
