Aluminium Stair Corner Trim 25mm Inner Angle for 3mm LVT Floors

Where an LVT floor runs into a vertical face, the cut edge of the plank has nowhere to go. On a stair that junction is the back of the tread against the riser; on a landing or corridor it is the foot of a clad upstand or a wall. Left open, the joint collects grit, the plank edge lifts under traffic, and every imperfection in the substrate shows. This anodised aluminium inner angle closes that internal corner in a single mechanically fixed length. It is sized for 3mm LVT: the floor plank runs over the thin base leg and butts the small step at the back, and the upright leg carries up the vertical face behind the wall covering.

This is an internal corner angle, not a step-edge nosing. It does not sit on the front lip of a tread and it is not a slip-resistant nosing. If you need the leading edge of the step covered, you want a nosing profile instead.

Why it works

The section is cut for 3mm vinyl, not adapted to it

The base leg measures 25mm front to back and thins to a 0.75mm feather edge, so the plank laps over it without a bump you can feel underfoot or catch a mop on. At the back of that leg the extrusion steps up to meet the upright, and that step is what the plank edge closes against — it hides the saw cut without you having to scribe the vinyl to a wall that is never quite straight. Anodising that suits the traffic it will take

The extrusion is AA 6063 T6 aluminium (UNS A96063) anodised to DIN 17611. The manufacturer states the profile is suitable for all traffic in commercial buildings — retail, hospitality and education are the examples given — as well as domestic settings. Anodic film thickness varies by finish: mill finish carries an oxide film of roughly 0.2 microns, polishing takes that to about 5, matt finishes up to 20, and powder coating to 100. The anodised layer is part of the metal rather than a coating on it, so ordinary scuffing does not lift it.

Each length arrives individually packed, pre-drilled and countersunk, with screws and dowels supplied. The holes are already on centre and the screw heads finish flush in the countersinks.

Stair cores in offices and apartment blocks, where LVT treads meet LVT-clad risers and the back of every tread needs closing. Hotel and student corridors running into clad skirting upstands. Retail and showroom floors finishing against display plinths and counter fronts. Clinic and salon fit-outs where a wipeable floor-to-wall junction matters more than a decorative skirting.

Choosing the right option

Start with the floor. This profile is cut for 3mm LVT; with 5mm planks the step at the back of the base leg sits wrong against the finished floor, so use a 5mm inner corner instead. Then pick the length against the run you are closing. On stairs, order per tread — a 0.9m length covers a standard domestic tread with trimming to spare, and short lengths usually waste less than cutting down 2.7m bars. For a continuous floor-to-wall run the 2.7m length gives fewer joints, and it is the only length the manufacturer produces as standard, so it is the most reliably stocked. On finish: Bright Silver is the reflective option and reads as a deliberate metal line; Matt Silver is lower-sheen and settles into pale grey and white schemes; Bronze warms into oak and walnut LVT. All three are anodised, not painted.

Installation, use and care

Clean the substrate and remove anything that would stop the profile bedding down. Measure and cut to length, offer it up and mark through the existing holes. Move the profile aside, drill and plug, then reposition and fix with the supplied screws and dowels. Lay the LVT last so the plank edge closes against the step. Remove adhesive, mortar, cement or grout residue from visible faces straight away: when wet, cement-based materials turn alkaline and will corrode aluminium if left in contact. Clean with pH-neutral detergent or colourless alcohol diluted in water, applied to a soft cloth rather than to the profile, then rinse and dry. Avoid hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid cleaners and abrasive pads — a damaged anodised surface can only be restored by recoating.
