Aluminium Stair Corner Trim 28x28mm - Inner Corner for 5mm LVT

This is the trim that closes the internal angle in a luxury vinyl floor — the line where a tread meets the riser behind it, or where a plank run meets a vertical face. It is an anodised aluminium angle, 28mm on the upright leg and 28mm on the base leg, with a 5mm recess machined into it so the edge of a 5mm LVT plank slides in and finishes flush. Fitters reach for it at the back of a stair tread, along the foot of a wall where a skirting would look heavy, and around plinths and upstands. It is an internal corner trim, not a step-edge nosing: it does not wrap over the front nose of a step and it carries no anti-slip insert.

Why it works

The recess does the work a bead of sealant cannot. Cut LVT rarely gives a clean edge, and an exposed plank edge in a corner collects dirt, lifts at the tip and shows every millimetre of a bad cut. The 5mm recess swallows that edge, so the tolerance you need drops from "perfect" to "within a few millimetres" and the joint reads as one continuous line.

Aluminium holds the angle; a flexible trim will not. An internal corner in a stairwell takes heel strikes, vacuum heads and mop pressure from directly above. Extruded aluminium keeps its shape under that, and the anodised surface is an integral oxide layer rather than a coating, so it does not chip off an edge the way paint does.

Fixed, not stuck. Both legs are pre-drilled with countersunk holes and the profile is supplied with four plugs and screws. A screw fixing holds through seasonal movement and humidity in a way double-sided tape in a corner does not, and the fine ribbing on both inner faces gives adhesive a key where you use it as well.

Domestic staircases in click or dry-back LVT, closing the back of each tread against the riser. Hallways and landings where a slim metal line replaces a skirting board. Around kitchen plinths, boxed-in pipework, bath panels and stair strings. Rented and student accommodation, where a screw-fixed corner survives turnover better than a glued strip.

Choosing the right option

Start with the length. Measure each run and buy the length that crosses it in one piece — a joint in an internal corner is the first thing the eye finds. A 0.9m piece suits a single tread or a short return; the 2.7m covers a typical hallway wall or three treads cut from one bar, and works out cheaper per metre. Order one spare if you are cutting mitres.

Then the finish. Silver is the safe match to brushed stainless ironmongery and grey-toned planks. Black disappears against dark floors and suits matt black handles. Gold and Champagne are warmer; Champagne is the softer, more muted of the two and sits well with oak-effect planks. All four are the same extrusion, so mixing finishes between floors costs nothing in fit.

Installation, use and care

Fit the trim before the final plank run goes down. Offer the length up, mark through the pre-drilled holes, drill and plug the substrate, then screw the base leg down and the upright leg back. Slide the plank edge into the 5mm recess — do not force it, leave the normal expansion allowance. Internal corners are mitred at 45 degrees; cut with a fine-tooth blade and deburr the edge. Clean with a damp cloth and a neutral floor cleaner. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach and acidic descalers, which will dull an anodised surface.

Frequently asked questions

Will this work as a stair nosing on the front edge of my step?

No. This profile closes the internal angle at the back of a tread or the foot of a wall. For the front edge of a step you need an outer-edge nosing, which wraps over the nose and carries the wear. We sell the matching 42x28mm outer-edge profile for 5mm LVT separately.

Does it suit click LVT as well as dry-back?

Yes, both. With click flooring, remember the floor must still be able to move, so leave the manufacturer's expansion gap and let the plank edge sit loosely in the recess rather than pinching it.

Are screws and plugs included?

Yes. Each length is supplied with four plugs and screws. You may want longer or different fixings for masonry or for a thick levelling compound, but nothing extra is needed for a standard timber or screeded substrate.

Will it take flooring thicker than 5mm?

No. The recess is machined at 5mm and a thicker plank will stand proud and rock. For 7mm or 8mm LVT you need a deeper-recess profile.

Ordering and delivery

All four finishes are available in both lengths. Lengths over 1.2m travel on a longer-goods service, so a 2.7m order may arrive separately from shorter items. If you are trimming a full flight, count the treads and add one spare length for mitre cuts.
