Slimline Square Back Stair Nosing 59x30mm Aluminium Cut to Any Size

Order this slimline square-back aluminium stair nosing cut to your own measurement, priced by the centimetre. It is the same 59mm x 30mm extruded profile as our stock-length listing – a single-channel carrier taking a 49.5mm anti-slip insert – but every bar is cut to the exact length you specify, so refurbishment work on stairs that are not a round metre goes down without a saw on site.

Cutting to size matters most on a flight where no two widths quite match. Ordering to the millimetre is the difference between a clean line into each stringer and a row of visible cut ends, and it removes the offcut waste that comes with buying 2m bars for a 1.6m step.

How the pricing works

Prices on this page are per centimetre. Choose your finish, insert colour and drilling option, then enter the length you need – the price shown updates to the price for that length. Minimum order length is 700mm; maximum is 3200mm in a single bar. For longer runs, order multiple bars and butt them.

Cutting tolerance is ±5mm, so allow a small expansion gap at each end rather than ordering the exact opening width. If you want a tight fit into a stringer or against a wall, order 3–5mm under the measurement and take up the difference with the insert.

Choosing the right option

Carrier finish. Six anodised finishes are available. Mill aluminium is the plain untreated extrusion and the lowest cost; satin and polished are anodised silvers, satin being the softer of the two. Black anodised, bronze and light bronze are the Designer Collection colours – specify these where the nosing has to disappear into a dark floor or pick up brassware.

Insert. Castellated PVC inserts (the ribbed profile) carry the highest wet slip figures and come in the widest colour range. Smooth textured inserts are flatter and easier to sweep, at a lower wet figure. Black Olympic Grip is a coarse aluminium-oxide band for the heaviest foot traffic in the range. The ATI49.5 aluminium inserts are metal rather than PVC – specify these where a fully metallic look is wanted, but note their wet figure is the lowest of the four insert families.

Drilling. “No Drilling” ships the bar undrilled, for adhesive fixing or for drilling on site to suit your own fixing centres. “Drilled Hidden Fix” arrives pre-drilled and countersunk, ready to screw down.

Slip resistance

The supplier publishes SRV (pendulum) figures for the insert materials used across this range: castellated PVC 76 wet / 85 dry, Black Olympic Grip 71 wet / 102 dry and smooth textured 56 wet / 65 dry. No figure is published for the ATI49.5 aluminium insert on this profile. These are the manufacturer’s figures for the insert, not a test on the finished installation. This profile is specified for stairs carrying low to medium traffic volumes; for external work or heavy commercial traffic, ask us about the GRP-insert version instead.

Installation, use and care

Set the nosing dry first and check it sits flat along the whole step before committing. On a drilled bar, mark through the holes, drill and plug the substrate, then fix with size 6 countersunk screws so the heads finish flush under the insert channel. On an undrilled bar, use a bead of high-grab construction adhesive along the underside of the tread plate and the back of the nose, and weight or tape the bar until it grabs. Clean with a neutral floor detergent; avoid abrasive pads on anodised finishes, which will scratch through the anodic layer.
