Description
Stairs are rarely the width the catalogue expects. If your treads measure 843mm, or every flight in the building is a different going, cutting stock bars on site means a saw, a measuring error waiting to happen, and a bin full of offcuts you have paid for. This is the same 63.5mm raked back profile as our 1m and 2m stock bars, cut here to the exact millimetre you specify between 700mm and 3200mm, with a tolerance of plus or minus 5mm.
Why cut to size
The rear edge of this profile tapers from a 4mm gauge down to roughly 1mm, which is what lets it land on an existing floor covering without leaving a lip. That taper is also the part that a rough site cut damages first. Cutting in a workshop keeps the ends square and the taper clean, so the nosing beds properly at both ends of the tread instead of rocking on a burr.
It also removes a whole step from the fit. Bars arrive labelled and in order, and on a long refurbishment where four flights each have their own going, that is the difference between a morning of measuring and cutting and an afternoon of fixing.
How the pricing works
Every finish and infill combination is priced per centimetre of finished length. Enter your length, and the price shown is what you pay for that piece. A 1000mm bar costs a hundred times the per-centimetre rate, so you can compare directly against the stock listing and see there is no premium for the cutting service itself.

Measuring for a cut length
Measure the finished going at the front edge of the tread, not at the back, and measure every step rather than assuming they match. On a stair between two walls, take 3mm to 5mm off your measurement so the bar drops in without scraping the plaster. Where the nosing runs to an open string, measure to the point you want the end to finish and specify that exactly. Custom cut lengths are made to your figures, so they are non-returnable except for faults.
Choosing drilling
Undrilled lets you set out fixings on site to miss joists and existing screw lines. Pre-drilled hidden fix arrives with holes countersunk on centres, ready to plug and screw. Drilled carries a small premium and saves real time on a long flight.
The honest limit
This is a 4mm gauge interior profile, specified by its manufacturer for low to medium foot traffic. Sustained heavy footfall or trolley impact will wear through the anodised finish to the aluminium beneath. For external, wet or high-traffic locations, ask us about the glass-fibre reinforced insert build of the same profile.
Ordering and delivery
Cut lengths are made to order. Allow additional working days over a stock bar; we will confirm a dispatch date with your order. Standard UK mainland delivery is a flat rate. If your treads happen to sit near 1m or 2m, the stock listing linked above will reach you sooner.
