A 93 mm tread is wide. That is the point of this profile: where a standard nosing gives you a 60 mm band at the step edge, this one covers nearly a hand's width of the tread and carries two anti-slip inserts across it rather than one. It is the nosing to specify when a stair takes heavy directional traffic and you want the grip to be under the whole of the foot, not just the leading edge. The back of the profile is raked, so it tapers away into the floor covering instead of standing proud, and at 3 mm gauge it is built to sit with vinyl, linoleum and medium carpet rather than thick commercial tile.
Why it works
Two inserts, not one
The double channel is what separates this from a conventional nosing. Two parallel bands of anti-slip PVC run the length of the 93 mm tread plate, which means the grip surface continues back past the point where a foot lands on a fast descent. It also doubles the visual signal: two contrasting lines read as a step edge from further up a flight than one does, which matters on long straight runs where a single band flattens out visually.
A slimline gauge, deliberately
The profile is a 3 mm gauge, suited to fixing with vinyl, linoleum and medium carpets or similar floor coverings. That is a genuine specification decision, not a saving: a 3 mm channel sits flush with a thin resilient finish, where the 5 mm heavy duty profiles leave a lip you then have to ramp. If your tread finish is thicker than a medium carpet, this is the wrong gauge and you want the heavy duty range instead. The extrusion is alloy 6063 to (DIN) EN 755, with composition to BS EN 573-3:2003.
The insert has published test data
The standard PVC insert is rated R11 to DIN 51130:2010 on the inclined platform test and achieves PTV 66 dry and PTV 54 wet on the pendulum test to BS 7976-2:2002. The UK Slip Resistance Group treats PTV 36 and above as low slip potential. The material is a REACH-compliant flexible PVC extrusion grade developed specifically for non-scuff stair nosing applications.
Fourteen colours, each with a published LRV
Step-edge visibility is a light reflectance calculation, and every insert colour in the range has a published figure: White 79.9, Sand 70.3, Haze 66.2, Cloud 59, Yellow 55.7, Canvas 53.2, Ice Grey 42.1, Beige 41.1, Dolphin Grey 27.6, Midnight Grey 12.8, Red 10.6, Cobalt Blue 9.2, Brown 9.1, Black 4.5. The mill-finish aluminium channel is quoted at 78.9. The profile is designed with DDA and BS8300 accessibility guidance in mind and is Equality Act 2010 compatible. Run the LRV difference against your own tread finish to confirm the contrast your finished stair achieves.
Where it is used
Office stair cores, school and college circulation stairs, healthcare corridors and stairwells, retail and leisure back-of-house, transport concourses and apartment common parts — anywhere the treads are finished in sheet vinyl, linoleum or a medium contract carpet and the stair carries enough traffic to justify the wider tread plate.

Choosing the right option
Check the gauge first. This is the 3 mm slimline profile. Measure the thickness of your tread finish: sheet vinyl, lino and a medium contract carpet are what it is designed around. A thick carpet with underlay, or a tiled tread, needs a 5 mm heavy duty nosing instead — ask us and we will point you at the right one rather than sell you this.
Then the colour. Work from the LRV list above against the finish either side of the nosing. The four colours unique to this wider range — Sand at 70.3, Haze at 66.2, Cloud at 59 and Canvas at 53.2 — sit in the upper-middle band and are the usual choice where the specification asks for contrast without the starkness of white. Yellow at 55.7 is for stairs that need to read as a hazard.
Then the length. This profile comes in 2.46 m, 2.77 m and 3.22 m bars and the shorter rungs are cut from those. Order the next length up from your tread width; the profile is cut on site.
Installation, use and care
Work on a dry, clean, level tread and fill any hollow behind the nose first — a profile bridging a void drums underfoot and works loose. Glue, screw or tape are all acceptable fixing methods; on concrete and screed, drilling and plugging with adhesive under the plate is the durable option, and the inserts press in afterwards to cover the screw heads. Cut with a fine-tooth blade and de-burr the ends. Clean with a neutral detergent; avoid solvent cleaners on the aluminium and abrasive pads on the inserts, which dull the surface texture that provides the grip.
Frequently asked questions
Why are there two inserts instead of one?
Because the tread plate is 93 mm wide. A single band on a plate that wide would leave bare metal where the foot actually lands, so the profile carries two parallel anti-slip strips across it.
Will it work with a thick carpet?
No. This is the 3 mm gauge, specified for vinyl, linoleum and medium carpets. Thicker finishes need a 5 mm heavy duty profile — contact us and we will quote the right one.
What slip rating does the insert carry?
The standard PVC insert is rated R11 to DIN 51130:2010, with a pendulum result of PTV 66 dry, PTV 54 wet to BS 7976-2:2002. Those figures are for the insert material, not a test on an installed stair.
Is it DDA compliant?
It is designed with DDA and BS 8300 guidance in mind and is Equality Act 2010 compatible. The published LRV figures above are what you need for the contrast calculation — check the difference against your own tread finish before you specify.
Can I get it in a non-standard length or anodised?
Yes. It can be cut to size and anodised on request. Send us the cutting list and we will price it. Note there is a dimensional tolerance of up to ±5 mm.
Ordering and delivery
Pick your insert colour and length above — all 84 combinations are priced individually, so the figure you see is for that exact bar. Longer bars travel on a bar carrier. If you are pricing a whole stair, need a cutting list, or want an insert sample to hold against your floor finish before committing, email us and we will confirm in writing.
