Description
Bullnose Stair Nosing — Aluminium Double Channel, 2.75 Metre
A premium-grade extruded aluminium stair nosing with a classic rounded bullnose front edge and twin PVC insert channels. Engineered to protect stair tread edges, enhance slip resistance, and deliver a clean, defined step edge across commercial and residential installations.
What It Is & What It Does
This bullnose aluminium stair nosing is a purpose-built edge protection profile designed to be fixed to the leading edge of stair treads. Its rounded front profile sits flush against the riser, creating a smooth, safe transition between tread and step face. The double-channel body accepts two PVC slip-resistant inserts, providing enhanced traction underfoot and clear visual definition of each step edge.
Supplied in a 2.75 metre (2750mm) stock length, it is intended to be cut to the exact width of the staircase on site. It is suitable for use over vinyl, lino, and lightweight carpet floor coverings, and can be fixed to timber, concrete, and other common stair substrates using mechanical fixings or a suitable adhesive. Available in a choice of aluminium finishes and a wide range of PVC insert colours, it is equally at home in high-traffic commercial environments and domestic settings.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a bullnose stair nosing and how does it differ from a square-edge nosing?
A bullnose stair nosing has a rounded front edge that curves down towards the riser, giving a softer, more traditional profile. A square-edge nosing has a flat, right-angled front. The bullnose shape is typically used on stairs where the tread has a rounded or overhang edge, and it provides a neat, flush finish against the riser face.
What floor coverings is this stair nosing compatible with?
This profile is designed for use with vinyl, lino, and lightweight carpet floor coverings. The 3.5mm gauge and double-channel design make it well suited to thinner floor finishes. It is not recommended for use with thick or heavy-pile carpets, as the profile height may not accommodate the additional depth.
Can this nosing be cut to a shorter length?
Yes. The profile is supplied at 2.75 metres (2750mm) specifically so it can be cut to the exact width of your staircase on site. A metal-cutting saw or angle grinder with an appropriate blade is recommended. Always measure the stair width carefully before cutting, and allow for any skirting boards or wall returns.
How is the stair nosing fixed to the stair tread?
It can be fixed using countersunk mechanical fixings (screws) through the base flange of the aluminium carrier, or with a suitable construction adhesive, or a combination of both. The fixing method will depend on the substrate — timber stairs are typically screwed, while concrete stairs may require adhesive or masonry fixings. The PVC inserts are pressed into the channels after the carrier is secured.
What are the exact dimensions of this stair nosing profile?
The tread (horizontal) width is 84mm, the riser (vertical) drop is 37mm, and the aluminium gauge (material thickness) is 3.5mm. The stock length is 2.75 metres (2750mm). These dimensions should be checked against your stair geometry before ordering to ensure compatibility.
Can I choose different insert colours for each channel?
The product is supplied with a single insert colour selection applied to both channels. However, because the inserts are pressed in separately, it is possible to source a second colour independently and use contrasting inserts in each channel — for example, combining a Hazard yellow with a Premium Black — to create a high-visibility step edge. Please contact us if you require further guidance on mixed insert options.
