What is Clear Anti-Slip Tape?

Clear anti-slip tape provides the same silicon carbide grit anti-slip surface as black or yellow alternatives β€” but in a fully transparent format that is virtually invisible once applied. It is the solution of choice when slip resistance is essential but the appearance of the floor surface must be preserved β€” designer tiles, polished stone, glass stairs, natural wood, pattern flooring or any surface where a visible coloured strip would be intrusive or aesthetically unacceptable.

Once applied to a clean surface, clear tape is barely noticeable from a normal standing distance. The grit surface only becomes visible when light catches it at an angle, or when examined closely. This makes it suitable for high-end residential properties, hospitality environments, designer-fit commercial spaces and any installation where slip prevention is required without compromising the visual design of the floor or staircase.

50mm vs 100mm β€” Which Width?

Width Coverage Per Roll Best Applications
50mm ~21 strips at 860mm stair width Stair nosing strips, narrow wet room areas, pool step edges, shower tray edges
100mm ~21 strips at 860mm Wider floor areas, bathroom floor strips, full stair tread coverage, pool surrounds

Key Features and Benefits

  • Invisible anti-slip protection β€” once applied to a clean surface, clear tape is nearly indistinguishable from the floor beneath it. The textured grit surface provides grip without the visual impact of a coloured strip.
  • Preserves floor aesthetics β€” on designer tiles, polished stone, glass staircases, parquet wood and patterned flooring, clear tape allows the full floor design to remain visible while adding essential slip resistance.
  • Silicon carbide grit β€” the same specification grit used in black and yellow tapes. Grip performance is identical β€” only the colour differs. Maintains anti-slip performance in wet, dry and oily conditions.
  • Ideal for wet rooms and bathrooms β€” waterproof construction maintains bond and grip on shower trays, bathroom tiles, pool steps and wet room floors where constant water exposure would degrade inferior alternatives.
  • Peel-and-press installation β€” clean the surface, peel the backing, press down, apply firm pressure. Walk on immediately. No tools, no adhesive and no trades needed.

Where to Use

  • Tiled floors and stairs β€” bathroom, kitchen, hallway and outdoor tiles where grip is needed invisibly
  • Glass staircases β€” modern architectural glass steps where a coloured strip would disrupt the design
  • Polished stone stairs β€” marble, slate, limestone and granite stairs in high-end properties
  • Wet rooms and shower trays β€” invisible grip on wet surfaces without altering the room design
  • Swimming pool steps and surrounds β€” waterproof grip on pool steps, pool edge paving and pool hall floors
  • Natural wood and parquet flooring β€” grip strips on wooden stairs that preserve the timber appearance
  • Hotel and hospitality environments β€” designer-sensitive spaces requiring invisible safety improvements
  • Rental properties β€” invisible anti-slip improvement that doesn't affect the property's appearance

⚠️ Note: For maximum adhesion on polished or sealed surfaces (glazed tiles, polished stone, sealed wood), applying anti-slip floor primer before the tape significantly improves bond strength. On unsealed surfaces, ensure the area is clean and dry before application.

How to Apply

  1. Clean the surface thoroughly. Remove all dust, grease, soap residue and cleaning product from the floor surface. For bathroom tiles, a wipe with isopropyl alcohol is ideal. Allow to dry completely.
  2. Measure and cut. Measure the required length and cut the tape with sharp scissors. Cut squarely across the tape width.
  3. Apply primer (recommended for polished surfaces). On glazed tiles, polished stone and sealed wood, apply anti-slip floor primer to the substrate and allow to dry before applying tape.
  4. Peel the backing. Peel the release liner from one end.
  5. Press firmly onto the surface. Apply the tape starting from one end, pressing firmly as you go along the full length.
  6. Apply firm pressure throughout. Use the heel of your hand or a roller to press the full width of the tape into contact with the surface.
  7. Seal edges (recommended for wet areas). Apply anti-slip tape edge sealer along the two long edges to prevent water from working under the adhesive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is clear tape as effective as black or yellow anti-slip tape?

Yes. The grit material, adhesive specification and anti-slip performance are identical. The only difference is colour. Clear tape delivers the same grip in wet, dry and oily conditions as the coloured alternatives. It is particularly effective on smooth polished surfaces β€” tile, stone, glass and wood β€” where a coloured strip would be visually intrusive.

Will it show up on light-coloured floor tiles?

Clear tape is virtually invisible on light-coloured tiles at normal viewing distance. A very slight texture may be visible when light hits the grit surface at a low angle. On white tiles and pale stone, it is particularly unobtrusive. On very dark tiles, the transparent base may show a slightly lighter appearance due to the grit catching light.

Can I use it in a shower or wet room?

Yes. Clear anti-slip tape is waterproof and performs well in shower trays, wet room floors and bathroom tile applications. Apply edge sealer along the long edges after installation to prevent water working under the adhesive from the exposed edges. Clean, dry application surface is essential β€” allow newly cleaned tiles to dry fully before applying.

Will it stick to glazed tiles?

Clear tape adheres well to clean glazed tiles. For best results on highly polished or sealed glazed surfaces, apply anti-slip floor primer to the tile surface first and allow to fully dry before applying the tape. This significantly improves bond strength and reduces the risk of edge lifting.

How long does it last in a bathroom?

In normal bathroom conditions with regular cleaning, clear anti-slip tape typically lasts 2–4 years before the adhesive edges begin to lift from repeated wetting and drying cycles. Edge sealer extends this considerably. When it needs replacing, the tape removes cleanly and the surface can be re-taped.
