End Caps for LED Tile-In Stair Nosing, Pack of 2

These end caps finish the open ends of our light-down LED tile-in stair nosing. On a staircase with an open side, or wherever a step edge stops short of a wall, the end of the profile is on show: without a cap you see the cut aluminium, the hollow LED channel and the end of the tape inside it. A cap closes that channel neatly, keeps dust and cleaning water out of the lighting, and gives each step the finished look the rest of the installation deserves. They are sold in packs of two, in matt silver to match the standard profile, or in brushed silver. Tilers, electricians and contractors fitting lit staircases use them on every exposed step end.

The caps are shaped for the LED channel of this tile-in step edge and fit both profile depths, the version for 9mm tiles and the version for 11mm tiles. You do not need a different cap for each depth, so one stock item covers the whole job.

Protects the lighting

The channel holds the LED tape behind its frosted diffuser. An open end lets in grit, mop water and cleaning products, all of which shorten the life of the tape and dull the diffuser. A cap seals the end so the light stays clean and even from one end of the step to the other.

A tidy, matching finish

Matt silver matches the standard anodised profile, so the cap reads as part of the nosing rather than an add-on. Brushed silver suits projects using brushed metal trims elsewhere.

Where it's used

Open-sided and cantilevered tiled staircases in homes, where both ends of some steps are visible. Feature stairs in hotel lobbies, restaurants and spas. Short runs of lit steps between floor levels, such as a raised dining area or a step down into a garden room, where the step edge stops in mid-floor. Any step where the nosing ends at a balustrade or glass panel rather than a wall.

Choosing the right option

Choose the finish to match your nosing. Our LED tile-in profile is matt silver, so matt silver caps are the usual choice; pick brushed silver only if you are deliberately matching brushed trims elsewhere on the job. Then count the open ends. Walk the staircase and count every step end that will be visible once the stair is finished, including both ends of fully open steps and the exposed end of any step that stops at a balustrade. Each pack contains two caps, so divide that number by two and round up. Order a spare pack on bigger projects, because caps are small and easy to lose on site.

Installation, use and care

Fit the caps once the profile is bedded, the LED tape is in its channel and the diffuser is in place. Clean the cut end of the profile so it is free of adhesive and dust, apply a small amount of clear silicone, and press the cap into the open end until it sits flush. Wipe off any excess silicone straight away. Clean with a damp cloth and a pH-neutral detergent, and avoid acidic tile cleaners, which can mark the finish.

Q: Do I need end caps on every step?
A: Only where the end of the profile is visible. Steps that run wall to wall with the nosing tucked behind the skirting or wall tiles do not need them.

Q: Do they fit both the 9mm and 11mm profiles?
A: Yes. The same cap fits both tile depths of our light-down LED tile-in stair nosing.

Q: How are they fixed?
A: With a small amount of clear silicone into the open end of the profile, after the LED tape and diffuser are fitted.
