WHY CHOOSE EXTRA COARSE ANTI-SLIP TAPE
- β‘ Extra Coarse Grade β Significantly More Aggressive Than Standard Tape β larger grit particles deliver superior grip in conditions where standard anti-slip tape is insufficient: oil, grease, wet metal and extreme foot traffic
- π’ Marine, Industrial and Offshore Grade β specified for boat decks, offshore platforms, oil refineries, food processing plants and heavy industrial floors where maximum grip is a safety-critical requirement
- ποΈ 18.3 Metre Roll β 4 Widths from 25mm to 150mm β complete coverage for any surface from narrow stair nosings to wide vehicle ramps
- π High-Performance Heavy Duty Adhesive β a stronger adhesive specification than standard tape to maintain bond under vibration, heavy traffic and cleaning chemicals
- π Waterproof and Chemical Resistant β performs in wet, oily, salted and chemically contaminated environments where standard tape fails
What is Extra Coarse Anti-Slip Tape?
Extra coarse anti-slip tape uses a significantly larger and more aggressive grit particle size than standard anti-slip tape. Where standard silicon carbide tape provides adequate grip for domestic stairs and moderate commercial footfall, extra coarse tape is specified for environments where standard tape is insufficient β surfaces contaminated with oil, grease, water or chemicals; high-vibration environments such as marine decks and industrial plant; surfaces subject to heavy vehicle traffic; and any application where maximum possible traction is a safety-critical requirement.
The larger grit particles penetrate further into the sole material of footwear and work boots, providing significantly more friction than standard tape. The trade-off is that the surface is noticeably rougher underfoot β which is exactly what is required in industrial, marine and offshore environments where the consequences of slipping are severe. This tape is the appropriate specification for boat decks, dock areas, oil refineries, food processing plants, chemical works, offshore platforms, military and emergency service vehicles and any high-risk access area where a standard anti-slip tape would be considered insufficient.

Key Features and Benefits
- Extra coarse grit β grip where standard tape fails β the larger grit particle size penetrates oil films, grease contamination and wet surface conditions to maintain friction contact with footwear soles. In conditions where standard tape becomes ineffective, extra coarse tape continues to perform.
- Heavy duty adhesive specification β the adhesive is formulated for demanding conditions including vibration, thermal cycling, chemical exposure and heavy traffic loading. It maintains bond on metal surfaces subject to flexing and movement, such as marine decks and vehicle access ramps.
- Marine and offshore rated β UV stable, saltwater resistant and specified for use on boat decks, pontoons, dock edges, marina walkways and offshore platforms. The grit and adhesive both withstand sustained marine exposure.
- Chemical resistance β resists degradation from oils, fuels, industrial degreasers, food processing cleaning chemicals and solvent contact β making it suitable for food plants, petrochemical facilities and workshops.
- Four widths for every application β from 25mm for narrow access areas and ladder rungs to 150mm for wide ramp and platform coverage.
- Peel-and-press application β despite the heavy-duty specification, installation requires no tools. Clean and degrease the surface thoroughly, peel the backing, press firmly and apply sustained pressure.
Where to Use
- Marine β boat decks, pontoons, marina dock edges, launch ramps, chandlery steps
- Offshore platforms and oil and gas β deck walkways, access ladders, platform steps
- Industrial β factory floors with oil or chemical contamination, heavy machinery access
- Food processing β wet floors, drainage areas, cold store access steps
- Military and emergency services β vehicle access ramps, equipment bays, emergency exit steps
- Vehicle ramps β heavy goods vehicle tail lifts, loading ramps, ramp access plates
- Construction β site access steps, scaffolding boards, temporary ramp surfaces
- Sports and leisure β changing room access, gym equipment, pool mechanical rooms
β οΈ Note: Extra coarse tape is noticeably more aggressive underfoot than standard tape. For domestic stairs and light commercial applications where user comfort is a consideration, standard silicon carbide anti-slip tape provides sufficient grip with a less abrasive surface feel. Extra coarse is the correct specification where safety is the paramount concern in demanding environments.
How to Apply
- Degrease and clean the surface thoroughly. Extra coarse tape's performance depends entirely on a clean, grease-free substrate. Use industrial degreaser on metal surfaces and wipe clean. Allow to dry completely.
- Apply primer if required. On porous or particularly challenging substrates, apply anti-slip primer and allow to cure before applying tape.
- Measure and cut. Cut to length with heavy-duty scissors or a knife. The extra coarse surface is tougher to cut than standard tape β ensure scissors are sharp.
- Peel the backing and apply. Peel the release liner and press the tape firmly onto the surface from one end, working along the full length.
- Apply sustained firm pressure. Press firmly across the full tape width using the heel of your hand or a rubber roller. For heavy-duty applications, apply pressure for at least 60 seconds per section.
- Seal edges. Apply edge sealer along the long edges, particularly for external, marine or wash-down environments.
- Allow 24 hours before heavy loading. While the tape can be walked on immediately, the adhesive reaches full bond strength after 24 hours. Avoid heavy vehicle traffic or power washing for the first 24 hours.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does extra coarse tape differ from standard silicon carbide tape?
Extra coarse tape uses a larger grit particle size β the individual abrasive particles are physically bigger and more prominent. This delivers higher friction values, particularly on contaminated surfaces where the larger particles can penetrate through oil or grease films to make contact with the footwear sole. Standard tape uses a finer grit that provides excellent grip on clean surfaces but may be less effective in heavily contaminated environments.
Is it suitable for use on boat decks?
Yes β it is one of the most common applications. The heavy duty adhesive bonds to fibreglass (GRP), aluminium and teak deck surfaces. The saltwater resistance and UV stability maintain performance in marine environments. Apply to clean, dry surfaces above the waterline. Edge sealer is recommended for marine installations to prevent water ingress under the adhesive.
Will it work on oily or greasy floors?
The extra coarse grit is specifically designed for contaminated surfaces. However, the adhesive still requires a clean, degreased substrate to bond correctly β the degreasing requirement is for the adhesive, not the grit surface. Once bonded, the exposed grit surface performs in oily and greasy conditions.
How long does it last in heavy industrial use?
Service life depends on traffic intensity. In typical heavy industrial footfall, expect 1β3 years before the grit begins to wear significantly. In the harshest environments with chemical exposure and heavy machinery, inspect regularly and replace sections as needed. The heavy duty adhesive outlasts the grit surface in most applications.
Is it harder to apply than standard tape?
The application process is identical. The extra coarse grit surface makes scissors slightly less effective for cutting β heavy-duty scissors or a knife works better. More sustained pressure during application (at least 60 seconds) improves the bond on the challenging substrates where this tape is typically used.
