Description

Bare wooden or laminate stairs turn genuinely dangerous the moment socks, slippers or wet shoes meet a smooth tread, and these non-slip self-adhesive carpet stair tread pads give each step a soft, grippy landing zone in minutes, with no tools and no mess. Peel the backing, press each pad onto a clean step, and the staircase is safer before the kettle's boiled.

Why it works

Each pad is tufted from wear-resistant polyester fibre into a fine diamond trellis pattern, bound at the edge with a matching fabric trim so the perimeter never frays. The underside carries a TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) self-adhesive layer that grips wood, laminate, marble, tile and glass stairs without a separate glue or tape, and lifts away cleanly afterwards without leaving residue or damaging the finish underneath. The pile itself does two jobs at once: it stops a foot skidding forward off the leading edge of the tread, and it deadens the hard, hollow footstep sound that bare stairs produce, which matters as much for upstairs sleepers as it does for safety.

  • TPE self-adhesive backing – grips smooth stairs without glue or tape
  • Fabric-bound edge – stops fraying and lifting at the perimeter
  • Tufted polyester pile – machine washable, holds grip through 30-plus washes
  • Sound-dampening construction – quietens footsteps on hard stairs
  • Residue-free removal – reposition or take up without marking the stair

Where it's used

Wooden, laminate, marble, tile and glass staircases in family homes are the main use, particularly where young children, older residents or dogs use the stairs daily and a slip has real consequences. They also suit rented accommodation and holiday lets, where a removable, damage-free upgrade to bare stairs is worth more than a fitted carpet runner that can't come off at the end of a tenancy.

Choosing the right option

Count your steps before ordering: the pack of 4 suits a short flight, a landing run, or topping up a couple of worn treads on an otherwise-treated staircase, while the pack of 15 covers a standard full domestic staircase in one order with a couple spare for the top landing or a return step. All three colours — Grey, Beige and Black, each finished with a contrasting white diamond pattern — are cut to the same 700 x 220mm size, so packs can be mixed across an order if a hallway and a landing call for different shades. Measure your tread depth before ordering; a pad this size fits most standard UK stair treads but very narrow or very deep treads may need trimming or a different layout.

Installation, use & care

Clean and dry the stair surface thoroughly — grease, polish or dust under the pad will shorten how long the adhesive holds. Peel the backing film from one pad at a time and press it centrally onto the tread, working from one edge across to the other to avoid trapping air bubbles, then apply firm pressure along the whole pad for a few seconds. No glue, tape or tools are needed. Vacuum regularly for routine cleaning and machine wash when needed; reposition or remove by lifting a corner and peeling back slowly, which leaves no sticky residue on the stair.

FAQ

Will it damage varnished or painted stairs? No — the TPE adhesive is designed to release cleanly from smooth, sealed surfaces such as varnished wood, laminate and painted stairs when removed carefully.

Can I use it on carpeted stairs? No — the self-adhesive backing needs a smooth, hard surface to grip; it isn't intended for use over existing stair carpet.

Is it safe for dogs and older family members? Yes — the grippy pile and non-slip backing are exactly the combination recommended for reducing slips for pets and less steady walkers on hard stairs.

How long does the adhesive last? With a clean, dry surface at installation the backing holds through normal daily use and 30-plus machine washes without losing its grip.
