Description
A doorway where laminate meets tile, or vinyl meets a bare screed, almost always leaves a small step. It is only a few millimetres, but enough to catch a toe and let the covering's edge lift. This aluminium threshold ramp closes that gap. Its flat 31mm plate lies on top of the higher covering and its front edge folds down in a short ramp to the floor below, so the change in level is walked over rather than stepped over. It fixes on the adhesive strip already applied to its underside, so there is no drilling into a floor you have just laid.
Why it works
The ramp does the work
The profile is formed from anodised aluminium to an overall height of 11mm, which covers the small step left where a covering of up to roughly 10mm butts against a lower surface. The top plate sits flat and the leading edge falls away at a shallow angle, so a trolley wheel, a pushchair or a walking frame rolls across it instead of jolting over a square edge. Because the plate laps over the cut edge of the covering, it also hides the expansion gap and the saw line underneath.
Anodised, not painted
The colour is an anodised layer formed into the surface of the metal rather than a coating sprayed onto it. At a threshold that matters, because the trim takes the concentrated traffic of a doorway: an anodised surface does not chip away at the edges the way paint can, and it cleans with a damp cloth.
Adhesive fixing, nothing to buy
A continuous self-adhesive strip runs along the underside from the factory. You cut the trim to length, peel back the release film and press it down. Nothing is drilled, nothing is plugged and no screw heads show on the finished floor.
- 31mm wide flat plate, 11mm overall height
- Anodised aluminium in five finishes
- Factory-applied self-adhesive backing
- 0.9m and 2.7m lengths, cut to size on site
Where it's used
Internal doorways are the common case: hall to kitchen, landing to bedroom, living room to conservatory, wherever two coverings of different thickness meet under a door. It is equally at home in light commercial work such as office corridors, reception areas and shop fitting.

Choosing the right option
Start with the step, not the doorway. Measure from the lower floor to the top of the higher covering: this profile is made for a difference of up to about 10mm, so a 7mm laminate against a tiled floor sits comfortably within it. A bigger step needs a deeper ramp.
Then the length. A standard UK internal door opening is 762mm or 838mm, so 0.9m covers a single doorway with a little to trim off. Order 2.7m for wide openings, double doors, or when you are doing several doorways and want to cut them from one piece.
Finish is a matching decision rather than a technical one. Silver and inox read as neutral metal against most floors; gold suits warm oak and traditional brassware; champagne is a darker bronze that works with walnut and grey tones; black pairs with dark tiles and black door furniture.
Installation, use and care
Cut to length with a hacksaw or a fine-toothed blade and file the cut end smooth. The surface underneath must be clean, dry, sound and free of dust, grease and polish, as adhesive will not hold on a dusty screed or a waxed floor. Peel the release film, position the trim in one movement rather than sliding it into place, and press firmly along its whole length. Leave it to bond before heavy traffic. Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent; avoid abrasive creams and solvents, which dull the anodised surface.
Frequently asked questions
Is this an anti-slip threshold?
No. It is a plain anodised aluminium ramp with no carborundum or PVC insert, and no slip rating is published for it. If you need a rated anti-slip surface at a doorway or on a step, choose a profile with an insert instead.
How big a step will it cover?
The profile is 11mm high overall, so it suits a difference in level of up to about 10mm, which covers typical laminate, engineered wood, LVT and vinyl thicknesses. Measure the actual step first: if it is deeper, the ramp will not sit flat on the lower floor.
Will the adhesive hold on carpet?
Not on the pile itself. The tape needs a firm, smooth surface, so fix the trim to the hard floor or the subfloor and tuck the carpet edge beneath it or butt it up to the ramp.
Can it be used outside?
No external or wet-area rating is published for this profile, so treat it as an internal trim. For an outside doorway, use a threshold designed and rated for exterior use.
Are fixing screws supplied?
No, and none are needed. This version fixes on its adhesive backing alone and has no pre-drilled holes. If you would rather screw-fix, choose a drilled and countersunk threshold profile instead.
Ordering and delivery
Choose your finish and length above; each length is supplied as a single piece and every finish is stocked in both. If you are fitting several doorways, ordering 2.7m lengths and cutting them down covers the same run for less. Delivery options and current lead times are shown at checkout.
