WHY CHOOSE THESE ANTI-SLIP STAIR TREADS
- ✅ Pre-Cut to 150mm × 610mm — No Measuring, No Cutting — each tread is ready to peel and press straight onto the step. Covers a standard UK stair width in one piece.
- 🎨 6 Colour and Pattern Options — Black, Black/Yellow, Photoluminescent, CAUTION, WATCH YOUR STEP and Glow In The Dark; from invisible grip to maximum compliance marking
- 🔒 Self-Adhesive — Apply in Seconds, Walk on Immediately — pressure-sensitive backing bonds to any clean dry surface; full bond within 24 hours
- 🌧️ Waterproof and Durable — Indoor and Outdoor Use — the grit surface resists wear and the adhesive maintains bond in wet and humid conditions
- ⚠️ High-Visibility and Photoluminescent Options for Emergency Compliance — glow-in-the-dark and photoluminescent treads provide step edge visibility during power cuts and emergency evacuations
What are Self-Adhesive Anti-Slip Stair Treads?
Self-adhesive anti-slip stair treads are pre-cut, ready-to-apply rectangles of anti-slip material with a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing. Unlike anti-slip tape supplied on a roll — which requires measuring, cutting and sometimes fiddly application on each step — these treads are pre-cut to 150mm × 610mm, a standard size that covers a full UK stair width in one piece without any preparation. Peel the backing, position on the step, press down and walk on immediately.
Each tread is 150mm deep (front to back on the step surface) and 610mm wide — covering the majority of the step tread in one application. The anti-slip grit surface provides immediate friction underfoot, significantly reducing slip risk on bare wood, tile, laminate and concrete stairs. Available in six different colours and patterns to suit both discreet domestic installations and high-visibility commercial compliance requirements.

Key Features and Benefits
- Pre-cut — zero preparation — each tread is cut to 150mm × 610mm at the factory. There is nothing to measure, cut or configure. Open the pack, peel the backing, press onto the step.
- Sold per tread — buy exactly what you need — no roll to manage, no offcuts to store. Order the exact number of treads for your staircase. A typical UK staircase of 13 steps needs 13 treads.
- Covers the full step width in one piece — at 610mm wide, a single tread covers a standard UK domestic staircase width without joins or alignment issues.
- 150mm depth — substantial tread coverage — 150mm covers the front portion of the step where feet land, providing anti-slip protection across the highest-risk part of the tread.
- Six patterns for every application — from discreet black for domestic use to photoluminescent and message-printed treads for commercial compliance requirements.
- Immediate use after application — the tread is walk-on ready immediately after pressing down. No adhesive curing time needed before returning stairs to use.
Where to Use
- Domestic stairs — wooden, tiled, laminate and concrete steps at home
- Rental properties — quick, cost-effective slip hazard reduction between tenancies
- Schools and educational facilities — Black/Yellow or WATCH YOUR STEP for DDA-compliant step marking
- Offices and public buildings — commercial compliance anti-slip and step visibility
- Emergency exit stairs — photoluminescent and glow-in-the-dark options for power cut safety
- Hospitals and care homes — step safety for vulnerable users
- External and garden steps — waterproof construction suits outdoor concrete and stone steps
- Temporary installations on construction sites and events
How to Apply
- Clean the step surface. The step must be clean, dry and free from grease, wax and dust. For porous surfaces such as rough concrete, apply floor primer first.
- Position the tread. Hold the tread over the step to check alignment before peeling the backing. The tread should sit at the front of the step, covering the nosing area.
- Peel the backing. Peel the release liner from the back of the tread.
- Press down firmly. Place the tread on the step and press down with firm, even hand pressure across the entire surface. Pay particular attention to the edges.
- Apply a roller (optional). Running a hand roller across the tread surface ensures full contact of the adhesive with the step, particularly on textured or uneven surfaces.
- Repeat for each step. Apply one tread per step, working from the bottom of the staircase upwards.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many treads do I need for a staircase?
One tread per step. A typical UK domestic staircase has 13 steps. The tread at 610mm wide covers a standard stair width without the need for trimming. If your staircase is wider than 610mm, two treads per step (side by side) may be required.
Can I trim the tread to a shorter width?
Yes. The tread can be trimmed with sharp scissors or a craft knife on a cutting mat. Cut squarely across the width from the back of the tread.
What is the difference between Photoluminescent and Glow In The Dark?
Both are photoluminescent — they absorb light and emit a green glow in darkness. The Photoluminescent option has the glow material integrated into the tread surface. The Glow In The Dark option combines anti-slip grit with photoluminescent properties. Both are suitable for emergency exit stairs and environments where step visibility during power cuts is required.
Will these stick to carpet?
The adhesive backing is designed for hard surfaces — wood, tile, concrete, metal and laminate. It does not adhere reliably to carpet pile. For carpeted stairs, consider mechanical fixing or a grip mat solution instead.
Can I use these outdoors?
Yes. The treads are waterproof and suitable for outdoor concrete, stone and metal steps. For outdoor installations, applying adhesive edge sealer around the perimeter of the tread extends its service life by preventing water ingress under the backing.
Are the CAUTION and WATCH YOUR STEP treads suitable for DDA compliance?
Yes. The high-visibility text treads provide both the visual contrast required under the Equality Act 2010 for step edge identification and an explicit written hazard warning. They are widely used in schools, public buildings and workplaces as part of a comprehensive stair safety programme.
