Description
Protect the exposed edges of your stairs with this professional-grade RGPD Rubber Stair Nosing (70mm x 40mm) — a flexible, high-performance step edge profile used in commercial and residential builds across the UK. Engineered from a special shape-memory PVC/rubber compound, it delivers long-lasting anti-slip protection without cracking, fading or losing its form under heavy footfall.
Available in lengths of 900mm, 1180mm and 1500mm, and in Black, Brown, Beige, Grey and Dark Grey, it can be cut to size on site with a sharp knife or shears — making it suitable for virtually any standard stair width. Ideal for offices, schools, apartment blocks, retail units, hotels, care homes and domestic properties.

Installation Guide
- Prepare the surface — thoroughly degrease, clean and level the stair tread. The substrate must be dry, sound and free from dust or loose material.
- Temperature check — installation should take place at room temperature. In cold conditions, warm the profile gently with a heat gun or warm air before fitting to improve flexibility.
- Cut to length — measure the exact step width and cut the nosing to size using a sharp knife or shears for a clean, flush edge.
- Apply contact adhesive — apply a compatible high-strength contact adhesive to both the underside of the nosing and the step surface. Allow to become touch-dry (typically a few minutes) before joining.
- Press firmly into position — align the nosing carefully, then press firmly along the full length to ensure full bond contact. Apply even pressure across the tread and riser faces.
- Allow to cure — leave undisturbed for the adhesive manufacturer's recommended cure time before allowing foot traffic.
Note: For external stairs or areas subject to moisture, ensure the adhesive used is suitable for outdoor/wet conditions. Mechanical fixings may be used in addition to adhesive in heavy commercial installations where substrate permits.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the RGPD profile used for?
The RGPD is a bullnose stair nosing designed to cover and protect the exposed front edge of a stair step (tread and riser). It improves safety by providing a visible, textured step edge that reduces slip risk and prevents wear to the stair substrate.
What is the difference between the 70x40mm size and smaller profiles?
The 70mm tread and 40mm riser dimensions make this profile suitable for standard stair builds with a deeper tread. It provides more coverage than smaller profiles, offering better protection and a more defined aesthetic edge.
Can it be used on external stairs?
This profile is primarily designed for internal use. For external stairs, consider a nosing specifically rated for outdoor conditions and UV/weather exposure.
How is the stair nosing fixed to the steps?
The nosing is typically bonded using a compatible high-strength contact adhesive applied to a clean, dry, sound substrate. In heavier-duty commercial settings, additional mechanical fixings may be used where the substrate allows and where recommended by your installer.
Can I cut this nosing to a shorter length?
Yes. The RGPD rubber nosing can easily be cut to your exact step width using a sharp knife or a pair of heavy-duty shears. No specialist cutting equipment is needed.
Is this suitable for use in schools and public buildings?
Yes. The profile contains no compounds harmful to humans or animals, making it suitable for schools, care homes, hospitals and other public buildings where safety and material safety are essential.
