Description
Every washroom cubicle used by women needs a discreet place to put sanitary waste, and a bin that has to be touched by hand defeats the point. This 15 litre pedal operated sanitary bin keeps the lid shut until a foot presses the pedal, so nobody handles the lid, the contents stay out of sight, and your cleaning team has one less contact surface to manage. It is a plain, hard-wearing white unit sized to stand beside a WC in a standard cubicle, and it takes a conventional drop-in liner so emptying is quick.
Why it works
The body and lid are moulded from ABS plastic. ABS is used for washroom fittings because it is rigid and impact resistant rather than brittle, so a bin knocked by a mop bucket or a cubicle door does not crack at the rim. The surface is smooth and non-porous, so it wipes clean with a standard washroom detergent without absorbing odour or staining, and there is no textured surface for residue to sit in.
The pedal is deliberately oversized. A large plate means the lid opens under a light press from any part of the foot, including a soft shoe or someone with limited strength, which matters in a cubicle where the user cannot easily change position. The lid returns closed under its own weight, so waste stays covered between uses. It also lifts off completely for liner changes, so cleaners are not fishing a full liner out through a hinged flap.
- Hands-free operation – the foot pedal means no user or cleaner has to touch the lid.
- Impact-resistant ABS – resists cracking from knocks in tight, busy cubicles.
- Non-porous wipe-clean surface – cleans down quickly and does not hold odour.
- Fully removable lid – liner changes take seconds rather than minutes.
- 15 litre cubicle capacity – enough volume for a full servicing cycle without crowding the floor.
Where it is used
This is a general-purpose commercial washroom bin. It is bought for office toilets, schools and colleges, hotels, restaurants, cafes and pubs, shopping and leisure centres, GP and dental surgeries, places of worship and village halls. It also suits HMOs, salons and small retail units, and any workplace washroom needing a low-cost disposal point in every female cubicle.

Choosing the right option
This listing is a single specification: white, 15 litre, pedal operated. There is no size or colour option to select, verified against the source listing, which carries one product code and one fixed price with no configurable options. If you need a different specification, the decision comes down to three things. Capacity: 15 litres suits a cubicle serviced weekly or fortnightly in low to medium traffic; move up to 20 or 22 litres for schools and busy hospitality venues. Operation: a pedal unit is the low-cost hands-free option, while automatic no-touch and stainless steel units cost roughly two to three times as much. Footprint: check the width against the gap between the WC pan and the cubicle wall before you commit.
Installation, use and care
No fixing is needed. Stand the bin on a level floor next to the WC, clear of the door swing, and check the pedal travels freely. To fit a liner, pull the rear of the lid outwards then upwards to release the rear security pegs, slide the lid forwards to clear the front pegs and lift it off. Drop the liner in and fold the opening over the rim. Refit the lid front pegs first, then press the rear down until both engage. Wipe the body, lid and pedal with a washroom detergent or disinfectant wipe on the normal cleaning round.
Frequently asked questions
Do I legally have to provide a sanitary bin?
The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 require employers to provide suitable and sufficient sanitary conveniences, and the supporting Approved Code of Practice expects a suitable means of disposing of sanitary dressings in washrooms used by women. This is general guidance, not legal advice.
Which liners fit it?
Standard sanitary bin liners sized for 15 to 20 litre bins. The lid comes off completely, so the liner drops into the base and folds over the rim. Liners are not supplied.
Does it need wall fixing?
No. It is free standing, so there is no drilling and nothing to make good if you move it, which suits leased premises where you cannot fix into tiling.
Can it be used as a general washroom waste bin?
Yes. Nothing in the design restricts it to sanitary waste, so it works as a covered pedal bin for paper towels and general washroom waste, provided waste streams stay separate.
