When a tiled kitchen floor meets laminate next door and both surfaces finish at the same level, you need a trim that closes the joint without creating a trip point. The A56 is a 26mm wide anodised aluminium T-bar: a flat top rail with a narrow ribbed stem beneath it that drops into the gap between the two floors. At 9mm tall it sits close to flush, covering the expansion gap and the cut edges of both coverings in one pass. It comes in 1.0m and 2.5m lengths and six anodised finishes, so the trim can be matched to the ironmongery and the floor tone.
The colour is anodised into the metal rather than sprayed on, forming a hard oxide layer that carries the colour within the surface itself, so it does not chip back at the edges where a doorway takes the heaviest traffic. On the Electro Polished option the aluminium is electrochemically polished before anodising, which is why it holds a bright mirror surface instead of dulling and staining as raw polished aluminium does.
The profile is 26mm across the top rail and 9mm tall overall. Height matters at a doorway, where a taller trim catches the bottom edge of the door and collects grit along its sides. The stem beneath the rail is ribbed so that adhesive, grout or silicone keys into it once the trim is pushed home.
Two floor finishes laid at different times rarely meet dead level. This profile suits surfaces at the same height, or up to 2mm apart, and the shallow taper each side of the rail absorbs that difference without leaving a step underfoot.
The common jobs are a kitchen-to-hallway doorway where porcelain tile meets laminate, a bathroom threshold where tile meets the landing floor, and open-plan rooms where two hard finishes are laid to a shared line. It also closes the expansion gap mid-run in a long laminate or LVT floor, and suits shops and offices where a tiled entrance meets a hard floor further in. It is not a carpet trim and not a ramp: both floors must finish at effectively the same level.

Width. The A56 is the widest of a three-profile family sharing the same 9mm height: A54 is 13mm across, A55 is 18mm, A56 is 26mm. Choose 26mm where the gap is generous or the cut edges are ragged and need covering; a narrower profile reads as a thinner line over a tight, neatly cut joint.
Length. A 1.0m piece covers a standard UK internal doorway of 762–838mm with an offcut to spare. Choose 2.5m for double doors, wide openings and open-plan divisions, where one continuous piece avoids a butt joint in the middle of the run.
Finish. Silver and Inox sit well with grey and cool-toned floors and with brushed or chrome ironmongery. Gold and Champagne suit warm oak and brass fittings. Black works against dark floors and black ironmongery. Electro Polished is the brightest of the six and is usually specified alongside polished chrome.
This is a bare profile: no track, clips or screws are supplied. Measure the opening, cut to length with a hacksaw or fine-toothed blade and file the ends smooth. Vacuum the joint, bed the ribbed stem into tile adhesive, grout or a bead of silicone, and press the top rail down until it sits flat on both sides. Weight or tape it until the adhesive has cured. Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent; abrasive creams and wire wool scratch anodised surfaces.

The aluminium is electrochemically polished before it is anodised. That differs from raw polished aluminium, which stains and oxidises over time; the anodised polished surface stays bright and is easier to keep clean.
No. This joins two hard floor finishes at the same height. Carpet needs a gripper edge or clamping lip to hold the pile, which this trim does not have.
