The same heavy-gauge aluminium bullnose stair nosing as our stock-bar listing — 70.58mm tread, 55mm rounded nose, 5.0mm gauge alloy 6063 T6 — but cut to whatever length your flight actually needs. Enter the measurement in millimetres, anywhere from 900mm to 3200mm, and every piece is cut to it with a ±5mm tolerance. Priced per metre, so you pay for what you order and nothing more.
Cutting to size is worth it on any flight where the goings are not all the same width — which, on a refurbishment, is most of them. Ordering to the millimetre is the difference between a clean line into each stringer and a row of visible cut ends, and it stops you buying 2m bars to fit a 1.4m step.
If your going is close to a standard 1m or 2m bar, the stock-length version of this bullnose nosing is usually the simpler order.
5mm gauge, so it stays flat. On a stair edge that thickness is the difference between a nosing that holds its line under load and one that dishes between fixings after a couple of years. The deep bullnose returns under the step to close off the front arris rather than leaving it exposed, and because the nose is rolled rather than square, trolley wheels and luggage glance off it instead of chipping an edge.
The insert carries the slip resistance. The tread plate is recessed for a full-width insert that sits proud of the metal — that is what your foot lands on. Finish is the aluminium carrier — the metal around the insert and across the nose. Colour is the insert sitting in the channel, which is why some combinations read as two metal names. Mill aluminium is the untreated extrusion and the cheapest; satin and polished are anodised and hold their appearance far better in a public stairwell.
Castellated PVC is the default insert for interior stairs and carries the highest wet figure of the four families. If the stair is external or genuinely gets wet, this is the wrong profile — there is a GRP-insert build for those conditions and we will quote it on request.
Measure each going before ordering and allow for the ±5mm cutting tolerance — if you want a tight fit into a stringer, order 3–5mm under and take up the difference with the insert. Drill and screw-fix the tread plate to the substrate with size 8 screws at regular centres; on timber steps the profile can be rebated so the plate finishes flush. Fit the nosing before the floorcovering is dressed up to the back edge, then trim the covering to abut the profile. Clean with a neutral floor cleaner and a damp mop; keep abrasive pads and solvent cleaners off anodised finishes.

Works a treat, mate! I used it for the stadium where those concrete flights need a bit of TLC, and this gear really seemed like good bang for your buck. Easy to cut down to the perfect size with just a hacksaw and a bit of elbow grease. The stair nosing snugly fitted around that met railing, plus it’s been holding up nicely even with all the weekend footie traffic.

Durable option for the busy staircase. I was quite pleased when the stair nosing arrived precisely cut to our needed dimensions, keeping things smooth while fitting it across the steps leading down to our game room. Although Id rather have skipped the industrial lights reflecting off them on sticky summer evenings, they do feel secure and solid underfoot, surviving countless trips up and down already.
