Aluminium Door Threshold Ramp 30mm Screw Fix Transition Strip

In most doorways the two floors do not quite meet. On one side the vinyl sits two or three millimetres proud; on the other the laminate drops away. Left alone that lip catches toes, snags a mop head and lets the covering creep until it lifts. This 30mm anodised aluminium ramp threshold closes the gap properly: it laps over the higher covering, falls away across its width and lands on the lower floor with an edge thin enough to walk over without noticing. It screws down through pre-drilled holes, so it stays put in a hallway taking a hundred passes a day. Five anodised finishes and two lengths let you match the door furniture already on the frame.

Why it works

The ramp does the work

Across its 30mm width the profile falls from 5mm at its thickest edge to a feathered edge that sits flush on the floor. That taper is the whole point: a level change of up to 3mm is absorbed over 30mm of travel instead of being met head-on by a square upstand. Feet, castors, vacuum heads and walking aids ride over it rather than catching on it, and there is no raised lip for a door leaf to foul as it swings.

Anodising is part of the metal, not a coat on top

Anodising grows a hard oxide layer into the aluminium rather than sitting on it the way paint does. It will not flake where shoes scuff hardest, and the colour runs through the treated layer, so wear shows as a polish rather than a bare metal patch. In a doorway — the most walked-on strip of floor in any room — that shows up within the first year.

Screwing it down beats sticking it down

The face is pre-drilled for countersunk screws, and screws with wall plugs are supplied. A mechanically fixed threshold does not creep in summer heat, does not lift when a covering shrinks back, and can be taken up and refitted. Two fine grooves run the length of the face, breaking up reflections.

Where it is used

Doorways between rooms with different floorcoverings: vinyl or lino meeting laminate, LVT meeting engineered wood, a tiled kitchen meeting a hall floor. It also finishes an open covering edge under a sliding door track or where a floor stops short of a fitted unit. Homes, rented flats, offices and surgeries all use the same profile.

Choosing the right option

Take the length first. A standard internal doorway is 762mm or 838mm, so the 0.9m bar covers almost every domestic opening with a little to trim. The 2.7m length suits double doors, wide openings and runs where a covering changes along a corridor — and it costs less per metre than three short bars.

Then the finish. Silver is the neutral default against grey and cool-toned floors. Gold suits traditional interiors and brass door furniture. Champagne is a warmer bronze that sits well with beige carpet and oak. Inox reads as brushed stainless, the usual choice in offices. Black works against dark LVT, charcoal tile and anthracite frames. If you are matching something already fitted, order a short length first — anodised colours are hard to judge from a screen.

Installation, use and care

Cut to length with a fine-tooth hacksaw or a non-ferrous mitre blade, then file the cut end. Lay the bar with the thick edge over the higher covering, mark through the pre-drilled holes, drill and plug the subfloor, and drive the supplied screws until the heads sit flush. Do not overtighten — the section is light and will dish. Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent; abrasive creams will dull the anodised face.

Questions we are asked

Will it cover a bigger step than 3mm?

No. Above about 3mm the thick edge stops sitting down properly and the bar rocks underfoot. Larger level changes need a deeper ramp section.

Can I use it with carpet?

It is intended for lino, vinyl, LVT and similar thin resilient coverings. It will finish a thin carpet whose edge is turned and gripped, but deep pile needs a carpet-to-hard-floor bar with a gripper leg.

Are the screws included?

Yes. The holes are pre-drilled and countersunk, and screws with wall plugs are supplied with every bar.

Can I fix it with adhesive instead?

You can, on a sound clean substrate, but it is not what the profile is made for. A screwed threshold stays flat and can be lifted again later.

Is it suitable outdoors?

No outdoor or wet-area performance data is published for this line, so we would keep it to internal doorways.
