Description
A flexible PVC bullnose nosing for internal steps that need a defined, grippier edge without drilling or screws. The 50 x 25 mm profile wraps the front of the tread, covers a chipped or worn edge and gives the foot a ribbed surface to land on. It suits landlords, facilities teams and home owners who want a tidy, low-cost fix on timber, laminate or vinyl stairs without fitting a screwed-down aluminium section. Supplied in black or grey and in 1 m, 2 m, 5 m and 10 m lengths, from a single step's worth to a full flight in one piece.
Why it works
A wrap-around profile, not a flat strip. Anti-slip tape only treats the top of the tread. This nosing turns the corner: a 50 mm flange sits on the tread and a 25 mm return drops down the riser, so the vulnerable arris is protected on both faces and the foot meets a rounded edge rather than a square one. On laminate and engineered boards that corner is where chips and delamination start, and covering it is cheaper than replacing a tread.
Ribbed PVC gives grip where the foot lands. The tread face carries fine longitudinal ribs that break up a smooth sole's contact patch and shed light dust, which is what makes a hard-floored step feel less skiddy in socks or worn shoes. The compound stays slightly pliable at room temperature, so it follows a tread that is not perfectly flat instead of bridging it and lifting.
Self-adhesive fixing suits floors you cannot screw into. The double-sided tape underneath bonds to sealed timber, laminate, LVT, ceramic and painted concrete, with no drilling through a thin floating floor and no visible fixings.
- Protects the step arris on two faces.
- Ribbed tread face for better grip.
- Peel-and-stick, no drilling.
- Cuts with a knife or fine saw.
Where it's used
Typical fits are domestic flights in houses and flats, split-level steps between rooms, loft and basement stairs, and back-of-house steps in small offices, shops and holiday lets. Grey is usually chosen for pale LVT and light oak, black for darker boards or a strong visual edge. It is an internal product: the adhesive is not intended for wet, dusty or external steps, and it is not a substitute for a screw-fixed nosing on heavy-traffic public stairs.

Choosing the right option
Measure the clear tread width between the strings or wall and multiply by the number of steps. A typical UK domestic stair is about 860 mm wide, so a 10 m coil covers eleven steps with a little waste, a 5 m coil five and a 2 m coil two. Single 1 m lengths suit an odd step, a landing edge or a repair. Buy one continuous length where you can: joints are visible and are the first place a strip starts to lift.
Check the step edge itself. This profile needs a square or lightly rounded arris with at least 50 mm of flat tread behind it. If the tread has a deep rounded nose or an overhang, the 25 mm return will not sit flat and a screw-fixed nosing is the better choice. On carpet, use a nosing designed to trap the carpet edge instead.
Installation, use and care
Unroll the coil and leave it flat in a warm room, or warm it gently with a hair dryer, so the profile relaxes before fitting. Clean the tread and riser with a non-oily cleaner and let them dry. Cut to length, dry-fit, then peel back the liner a section at a time, locate the bullnose on the arris and press the tread flange down from the edge inward before the riser flange. Keep foot traffic off it for 24 hours. Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent; solvents dull the surface and weaken the bond.
