A flexible PVC bullnose nosing for internal steps that need a defined, grippier edge without drilling or screws. The 50 x 25 mm profile wraps the front of the tread, covers a chipped or worn edge and gives the foot a ribbed surface to land on. It suits landlords, facilities teams and home owners who want a tidy, low-cost fix on timber, laminate or vinyl stairs without fitting a screwed-down aluminium section. Supplied in black or grey and in 1 m, 2 m, 5 m and 10 m lengths, from a single step's worth to a full flight in one piece.
Why it works
A wrap-around profile, not a flat strip. Anti-slip tape only treats the top of the tread. This nosing turns the corner: a 50 mm flange sits on the tread and a 25 mm return drops down the riser, so the vulnerable arris is protected on both faces and the foot meets a rounded edge rather than a square one. On laminate and engineered boards that corner is where chips and delamination start, and covering it is cheaper than replacing a tread.
Ribbed PVC gives grip where the foot lands. The tread face carries fine longitudinal ribs that break up a smooth sole's contact patch and shed light dust, which is what makes a hard-floored step feel less skiddy in socks or worn shoes. The compound stays slightly pliable at room temperature, so it follows a tread that is not perfectly flat instead of bridging it and lifting.
Self-adhesive fixing suits floors you cannot screw into. The double-sided tape underneath bonds to sealed timber, laminate, LVT, ceramic and painted concrete, with no drilling through a thin floating floor and no visible fixings.
Protects the step arris on two faces.
Ribbed tread face for better grip.
Peel-and-stick, no drilling.
Cuts with a knife or fine saw.
Where it's used
Typical fits are domestic flights in houses and flats, split-level steps between rooms, loft and basement stairs, and back-of-house steps in small offices, shops and holiday lets. Grey is usually chosen for pale LVT and light oak, black for darker boards or a strong visual edge. It is an internal product: the adhesive is not intended for wet, dusty or external steps, and it is not a substitute for a screw-fixed nosing on heavy-traffic public stairs.

Choosing the right option
Measure the clear tread width between the strings or wall and multiply by the number of steps. A typical UK domestic stair is about 860 mm wide, so a 10 m coil covers eleven steps with a little waste, a 5 m coil five and a 2 m coil two. Single 1 m lengths suit an odd step, a landing edge or a repair. Buy one continuous length where you can: joints are visible and are the first place a strip starts to lift.
Check the step edge itself. This profile needs a square or lightly rounded arris with at least 50 mm of flat tread behind it. If the tread has a deep rounded nose or an overhang, the 25 mm return will not sit flat and a screw-fixed nosing is the better choice. On carpet, use a nosing designed to trap the carpet edge instead.
Installation, use and care
Unroll the coil and leave it flat in a warm room, or warm it gently with a hair dryer, so the profile relaxes before fitting. Clean the tread and riser with a non-oily cleaner and let them dry. Cut to length, dry-fit, then peel back the liner a section at a time, locate the bullnose on the arris and press the tread flange down from the edge inward before the riser flange. Keep foot traffic off it for 24 hours. Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent; solvents dull the surface and weaken the bond.
Frequently asked questions
Yes on clean, dry, sealed surfaces. Most failures come from dust, polish residue or fitting a cold strip that springs back. Warm it, clean the step, press firmly and keep traffic off it for a day. On painted or porous risers, a bead of contact adhesive behind the return adds security.
All lengths are supplied coiled and hold a slight curve out of the box, which is normal. Leave it unrolled in a warm room, or use a hair dryer on a low setting, and it settles flat within a few hours.
No. The adhesive is designed for dry internal use; damp, temperature swings and grit under the strip will lift it. For external, wet or heavy-duty steps choose a screw-fixed aluminium or GRP nosing from our external range.
Not for this line. The ribbed face improves grip over a smooth board, but no pendulum test value is published, so it should not be specified where a documented PTV is required. Our aluminium nosings with tested inserts cover that need.

For the price, and just sticking it on, its surprisingly seamless with the vinyl flooring we have at our local community hall. Didnt expect it to blend so nicely without any awkward bumps or gaps! We prepped everything before applying—caught mid-way through with decent no-slips here in busy corridors thanks to this nifty stair nosing. Would totally splash out again if I needed more of them.

Works a treat, offering a decent alternative to metal options with its subtle finish and up-close refinement. The pvc stair nosing I fitted on my homes wooden steps matched well against pricier alternatives, proving ideal if you want something durable without breaking the bank. Time keeps ticking, but these liners still hold their charm in the soft light coming through my window.

Had to sort out the hazardous carpet unraveling in our museum annex. Wasnt sure how this would bear on such a high-traffic area with its bustling school tours, but it fit right over the frayed bits and stayed put. Surprisingly straightforward to roll it onto the bends, and those sunny afternoons almost make them sparkle!

Came well-packaged and ready to use. On the concrete stairs in our car park, it feels particularly sturdy, even when damp from rain. The stair nosing provides just the right grip underfoot during the busy comings and goings in wet conditions. No slips or wobbles seen yet after a few solid months of use—definitely reliable stuff!

Took a punt on this nosing because our service stairwells edges were really starting to show their age. Not only did it arrive spot-on time, but the packaging was secure and kept everything in perfect nick during transit. The stair nosing went onto our hotel’s tiled steps a treat and has stuck fast without any hassle at all! Honestly thinking about getting another batch for home—the grip is impressive, especially when you’re carrying around cleaning gear.

Installed it smoothly on the laminate steps in the lobby a couple of months back. Despite heavy foot traffic, its showing hardly any wear and still has a firm grip. Great for keeping edges tidy and secure over time.

Remarkably easy to fit. Got the stair nosing cut down to size with basic tools, no hassle needed. Its stuck firm on our museum steps without needing drilling—good deal for anyone sprucing up worn edges quickly.

Got this for sprucing up the tired vinyl stairs in our local community centre, and I have to say, the installation was incredibly straightforward. It wrapped snugly around the step edge without any need for tools or complicated fixing methods, which was perfect for someone like me with limited DIY skills. The stair nosing really tidies up the entire look of the hallway whilst providing a safe and slip-resistant finish. Its holding up well even with the heavy foot traffic we get here daily!
