WHY CHOOSE CONFORMABLE ANTI-SLIP TAPE

  • πŸ”© Aluminium Foil Backing β€” Conforms to Any Surface β€” applies over diamond plate, checker plate, raised ribs, curved pipes, ladder rungs and bent step edges where standard flat tape cannot bond correctly
  • βœ… Silicon Carbide Grit β€” Maximum Grip β€” coarse silicon carbide surface delivers the same aggressive anti-slip performance as standard tape, on surfaces where standard tape won't stay
  • 🎨 Available in Black and Black/Yellow β€” discreet black for general grip, or high-visibility chevron for DDA-compliant step edge and hazard marking on uneven surfaces
  • πŸ“ Roll or Pre-Cut Tread Format β€” 18.3m rolls in 50mm, 100mm and 150mm widths, plus 150Γ—610mm pre-cut treads for rapid step-by-step installation
  • 🌧️ Chemical and Fluid Resistant β€” Indoor and Outdoor β€” the powerful adhesive resists most industrial chemicals and fluids for long-term bond on challenging substrates

What is Conformable Anti-Slip Tape?

Standard anti-slip tape has a flat, rigid backing that requires a smooth, flat substrate to achieve full adhesive contact. On patterned metal floors such as diamond plate, checker plate, corrugated decking and raised-rib grating β€” where the surface is intentionally uneven β€” standard tape bridges across the raised portions and only contacts the peaks, leaving gaps in adhesion and significantly reduced bond strength. On curved surfaces such as ladder rungs, pipe handrails and bent stair nosings, flat tape cannot wrap around the radius and instead gaps, creases or lifts at the edges.

Conformable anti-slip tape solves this problem with an aluminium foil backing. Aluminium foil is inherently flexible and malleable β€” it bends, wraps and conforms to the exact shape of the surface beneath it, achieving full-surface adhesive contact even on highly textured or curved substrates. The result is a secure, long-lasting bond on surfaces where standard tape fails within weeks. The silicon carbide grit surface on top provides the same aggressive anti-slip performance regardless of the substrate beneath.

When to Choose Conformable Over Standard Tape

Surface Type Standard Tape Conformable Tape
Smooth flat floors and stairs βœ… Works well βœ… Works (overkill for flat surfaces)
Diamond plate / checker plate ❌ Bridges over peaks β€” poor bond βœ… Conforms to pattern β€” full bond
Ladder rungs (round/oval) ❌ Gaps at edges β€” lifts quickly βœ… Wraps around rung fully
Bent stair nosing edge ❌ Creases or lifts at bend βœ… Bends cleanly over the edge
Corrugated or ribbed metal ❌ Only bonds at ridges βœ… Bonds across full surface
Curved handrails or pipes ❌ Cannot wrap around radius βœ… Conforms to curved surface

Key Features and Benefits

  • Aluminium foil backing β€” the key differentiator β€” foil is malleable and deforms permanently to match the surface contour beneath it. Once pressed into a diamond plate pattern or wrapped around a pipe, it holds that shape and achieves adhesive contact across the full surface area, not just at the peaks.
  • Silicon carbide grit β€” same performance on any surface β€” the anti-slip grit layer is bonded to the outer face of the foil backing, and performs identically regardless of what is underneath. Users get the same grip whether the tape is on flat concrete or raised metal grating.
  • Black or Black/Yellow β€” black provides discreet grip on industrial equipment and access structures. Black/Yellow chevron provides DDA-compliant high-visibility hazard marking on step edges and ramp surfaces, including those with patterned metal substrates.
  • Roll or pre-cut tread β€” the 18.3m roll suits ongoing applications across multiple rungs, steps and surfaces. The 150Γ—610mm pre-cut tread provides a fast per-step solution for staircases.
  • Chemical and fluid resistant adhesive β€” the adhesive maintains bond in environments exposed to cutting oils, fuel, hydraulic fluid and industrial cleaning chemicals β€” conditions that rapidly degrade standard tape adhesives.
  • Scissors and knife cut β€” despite the foil backing, the tape cuts cleanly with heavy-duty scissors. Foil also allows the tape to be cut with tin snips for narrow strips and precise shapes.

Where to Use

  • Diamond plate and checker plate metal floors β€” access platforms, vehicle loadbeds, tail lifts
  • Ladder rungs β€” fixed access ladders, loft hatches, maintenance ladders, roof access
  • Metal stair nosings β€” bent or folded nosings where flat tape cannot conform to the edge profile
  • Corrugated and ribbed metal decking β€” mezzanine floors, plant room walkways, gantry decks
  • Pipe and handrail grip areas β€” curved surfaces requiring anti-slip coating
  • GRP grating β€” where the open mesh pattern requires a conformable backing for full adhesion
  • Marine applications β€” boat deck hardware, anchor chain areas, engine room gratings
  • Vehicle access β€” step plates, running boards, vehicle cab steps

How to Apply

  1. Clean and degrease the surface. Even patterned metal surfaces must be clean and grease-free. Use industrial degreaser and wipe dry. Conformable tape bonds better than standard tape on uneven surfaces, but still requires a clean substrate.
  2. Measure and cut. Measure the required length and cut with scissors or a knife. For ladder rungs, cut to rung width. For nosings, cut to step width.
  3. Peel the backing. Peel the release liner from one end of the tape.
  4. Press firmly into the surface contour. Starting from one end, press the tape firmly into the surface using your thumb or a tool, working the foil backing into the contours of the substrate. For diamond plate and checker plate, use a hard roller or the back of a screwdriver handle to press the foil into the recesses between raised features.
  5. Wrap around curves. For ladder rungs and curved surfaces, press the tape onto one face, then work it around the curve, pressing firmly at each stage to ensure full contact.
  6. Apply sustained pressure. Hold firm pressure for at least 60 seconds. The foil will permanently deform to match the surface and the adhesive will begin to cure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use conformable tape rather than standard tape on diamond plate?

Standard tape bridges across the raised diamond pattern, only bonding at the peaks. This leaves the majority of the tape adhesive area with no contact with the substrate, resulting in rapid edge lifting and tape failure. Conformable tape's foil backing deforms into the recesses between the diamond features, achieving adhesive contact across virtually the entire tape area for a dramatically stronger and longer-lasting bond.

Can it really wrap around a ladder rung?

Yes. The aluminium foil backing allows the tape to be bent and wrapped around cylindrical surfaces. Press one edge of the tape onto the top of the rung, then work the tape around the circumference, pressing firmly at each stage. The foil holds its wrapped shape permanently once deformed. Standard tape cannot do this β€” it creases, gaps and lifts at the point of curvature.

Which colour should I choose?

Black suits equipment and access structures in industrial and marine settings where grip is the priority without a visual hazard warning. Black/Yellow is specified when the surface also requires hazard marking β€” step edges visible to approaching users, ramp hazard zones and areas where DDA visual contrast is required.

Roll or tread β€” which format?

The roll format suits ongoing applications β€” fitting multiple rungs, a full staircase or a long ramp run from one roll. The pre-cut 150Γ—610mm tread is the faster option for stair treads β€” no measuring or cutting needed, one tread per step, peel and press.

Is it suitable for outdoor and marine use?

Yes. The aluminium foil backing is corrosion-resistant and the adhesive is designed to resist moisture, salt and chemical exposure. It performs in exposed outdoor environments including marine decks, pontoons and dock access structures.
