Description

Noise carries and sightlines distract the moment an open-plan office, classroom or waiting area gets busy. A floor standing office partition screen gives you a movable barrier you can put exactly where the problem is today, and move again when the layout changes. This is a straightforward fabric-panel screen on two weighted feet: lift it into position, stand it up, and it works. No fixings, no drilling, no damage to walls or floors, and nothing to undo when the room returns to normal use.

Why it works

The panel is faced in Elfin contract fabric over a slim 3cm deep frame and edged with a silver PVC trim. That trim caps the fabric all the way round, which is the part that usually fails first on a budget screen once chair backs, trolleys and cleaning machines start catching the edges. Elfin is a hard-wearing commercial cloth rather than a soft furnishing fabric, so it holds its appearance through repeated moves.

Fire performance is the specification that decides whether a screen is allowed into a school, clinic or public building at all. This panel is fire retardant to BS 476 Part 7 Class 1 for surface spread of flame, which is the surface-lining classification most facilities managers and fire risk assessors will ask you to evidence. Stability comes from the two grey powder-coated feet supplied with every screen. They sit flat on carpet tile or hard floor and spread the load across a wide footprint rather than balancing the panel on a narrow base. The screen is covered by an 8 year warranty.

One honest limitation: acoustic absorption figures such as NRC or an alpha-w rating are not published for this line, so treat it as a visual privacy and noise-scattering screen rather than a rated absorber.

Where it is used

Open-plan offices dividing hot-desk banks, screening a printer station or walling off a meeting corner. School and college staffrooms, exam halls and quiet areas for pupils who need reduced stimulation. GP surgeries, dental practices and physiotherapy clinics forming temporary consultation or triage bays. Council and housing association receptions creating a private conversation space at the counter. Training rooms, church halls and call centres where the layout changes week to week.

Choosing the right option

Start with height, because that is what decides what the screen actually hides. At 120cm the panel screens a seated person and their monitor while leaving the room open and daylight moving through it, which suits desk banks and reception counters. At 160cm it blocks the sightline of most people walking past but still lets you see over from standing. At 180cm you get near-full standing privacy, which is what consultation bays, changing corners and exam layouts need.

Then pick width to suit the run. A 120cm panel suits a single desk or a narrow gap; 140cm and 160cm cover a two-desk bay or a corridor opening with fewer joints. For longer runs, stand several screens in a shallow zig-zag rather than a straight line, which is far more stable. Colour is practical rather than decorative: black hides marks in high-traffic areas, while royal blue suits reception, education and healthcare spaces.

Installation, use and care

Unpack the panel flat, fit the two feet to the underside of the frame, then stand the screen up with a second person steadying it. Check it sits level and does not rock, and adjust on uneven floors before you load anything against it. Move screens by lifting rather than dragging, and never lean a panel on its fabric face where the trim can be crushed. Vacuum the fabric with an upholstery head and spot-clean marks with a damp cloth and mild detergent, working inwards. Do not soak the panel or use solvent cleaners.

Frequently asked questions

Will these screens link together into a longer run?
They are supplied as individual freestanding panels with their own feet, and linking hardware is not published for this line. Position them end to end with a slight angle at each joint for a stable, near-continuous barrier.

Are they suitable for a school or a clinic?
Yes. The BS 476 Part 7 Class 1 surface spread of flame classification is the one normally requested for surface linings in education and healthcare settings. Check your own fire risk assessment before ordering.

Can I fix one to the floor or to a desk?
No. This is a floor standing screen designed to stand on its feet so it can be moved. If you need a fixed or desk-mounted screen, ask us and we will quote the correct product.

Had to sort out the lack of zones in our startup office’s breakout area, and this screen did just the trick. Surprisingly simple to set up—it was done within minutes with no hassle. It seamlessly adapts to any rearrangement we fancy, which is perfect given our constantly shifting workspace layout.

Came neatly packed and was straightforward to set up in our library. The panel holds firmly, even on slippery floors, without any wobble during busy periods. It’s quite useful for creating a calm corner amidst the hustle, whenever necessary, thanks to its impressive weight and sturdiness as a divider.

Fantastic balance of function and flexibility! I expected the divider to be tough to adjust in our dynamic governmental workspace, but it was surprisingly easy to cut it down to the perfect size and fit. Weve been moving this panel around for months now, adapting as needed, and it holds its shape beautifully while keeping noise and distractions at bay.

Got this for the office to create a bit more privacy around our desks. It fits snugly between our workstations, and the fabric actually complements the space very nicely. Weve moved it about a couple of times already, and its remained sturdy; makes a solid divider whenever needed!
