If you are tiling a staircase and want the step edges lit as well as protected, this is the profile to fit. It is an aluminium tile-in stair nosing with a Florentine rounded lip on top and a concealed channel underneath that takes a standard LED strip up to 8mm wide. You bed it into the adhesive as you tile each step, so the nosing finishes flush with the tread and the light runs along the edge of every step. It comes in 2.5m lengths, in 9mm and 11mm heights to suit your tile thickness, and in four finishes: silver anodised, black matt (RAL 9005), titanium and white. It is aimed at tilers, fit-out contractors and homeowners doing a tiled staircase in a house, hotel, bar or office.

Why it works

Protection and visibility in one profile

A tiled step edge is the part of a staircase that chips first, because heels and dropped items land on it. The aluminium lip takes that impact instead of the tile edge. The LED channel then lights the nosing line itself, which is what your eye uses to judge where each step ends. That matters most on dim stairwells, in hospitality areas where lighting is kept low, and for anyone using the stairs at night.

A decorative edge rather than a utility strip

The Florentine profile is a rounded, classic shape, so it suits stone-effect porcelain, marble and traditional interiors where a square trim would look out of place. With the strip switched off it still reads as a finished decorative edge.

The channel accepts any commercially available LED strip up to 8mm wide, so you can choose warm white, cool white or colour-changing strip, and a driver, to suit the job.

Choosing the right option

Height: match the profile to the thickness of your tile. Choose 9mm for tiles around 9mm thick and 11mm for tiles around 11mm thick. The profile should sit flush with the tile face, not stand proud or sit below it. If your tile falls between the two, lay a sample tile against the profile on site before you start.

Finish: silver and titanium suit grey, stone and marble-effect tiles. Black matt gives a strong line against pale tiles and fits modern interiors. White blends into light floors so the light, rather than the metal, stands out.

Quantity: measure the width of each step. A 2.5m length covers two steps up to 1.25m wide or three steps up to about 830mm wide, so allow for offcuts and order one length per two or three steps.

Installation, use & care

Fit the profile as you tile. Press its fixing leg into the adhesive bed at the step edge, then lay the tread tile tight up to it so the tile face and the profile finish flush. Cut lengths with a fine-tooth hacksaw and deburr the cut end. Once the adhesive has cured, feed the LED strip into the channel and connect it to a suitable driver. Have an electrician carry out any mains connection. Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent, and avoid abrasive pads, which will mark the finish.

FAQ

Is the LED strip included?
No. The profile is supplied on its own, so you can choose the strip colour and brightness. Any standard strip up to 8mm wide fits the channel.

How do I hide the LED dots?
Fit our matching LED diffuser strip. It clips into the channel under the nosing and spreads the light into one smooth line. Choose white for the most light or grey for a softer glow.

Can I fit this to an existing tiled stair?
It is a tile-in profile, so it is designed to go in while the step is being tiled. Fitting it to a finished stair means lifting the edge tiles.

Can it be used outside?
It is intended for indoor steps. For external stairs, choose a profile made for outdoor use.

Which height do I need for 10mm tiles?
Test a tile against both heights if you can. In general, pick the height closest to your finished tile level so the edge does not become a trip lip.
