Where two hard floors meet — at a doorway, a room threshold, or a change from tile to wood — the join is the weak point. Left open it collects dirt, the cut edges of both coverings chip, and in time one side starts to lift. This 38mm aluminium cover strip closes that join and keeps it closed. It lies flat across both surfaces, standing 3.5mm proud at its crown and tapering to 2.5mm at each edge, so there is no trip lip and nothing you feel underfoot. A double-sided adhesive tape comes pre-applied to the underside, so it fits with no drilling at all — which matters over underfloor heating, buried cable runs, or any substrate you would rather not penetrate. Eight anodised finishes, two stock lengths.
Why it works
An adhesive fixing that is specified, not improvised
The pre-applied tape is not a general-purpose double-sided product. The manufacturer specifies it as solvent-free and pressure-sensitive, forming a non-hardening, permanently flexible and waterproof bond, and publishes 25 N/cm peel adhesion at 23°C, a cohesion figure of 6 kg/cm² and a softening point of 85°C. In practice that means an instant fix with no curing time: press the strip down, roll or weight it briefly, and the floor is back in use. Because nothing is screwed through the substrate, there is no risk to services below the floor and no drilling noise in an occupied building.
A section low enough to ignore
At 38mm wide and 3.5mm at its highest point, the profile is low enough to walk over without registering it, and wide enough to cover a normal expansion gap plus the cut edges of both floor coverings. The shallow dome sheds dirt rather than collecting it along a square shoulder, and it presents no edge for a trolley wheel or a vacuum head to catch.
Finishes chosen to sit with the ironmongery
All eight finishes are anodised aluminium. That includes the Brushed Brass and Brushed Stainless options — they are aluminium carrying an anodised finish, not solid brass or stainless steel, which is why they cost the same as the rest of the range. The manufacturer notes that anodised shades vary from batch to batch, so order a complete run at one time where several strips will be seen together.
Where it is used
Doorways between rooms in housing, student accommodation and hotels; tile-to-vinyl joins in kitchens, bathrooms and clinical areas; over an expansion gap in a long corridor; offices and retail units where the floor finish changes at a partition line. It earns its place on refurbishment work in particular, where both floors are already down and an adhesive-only fixing is the difference between a half-hour job and a disruptive one.

Choosing the right option
Start with the length. The 0.900m strip covers a standard internal doorway with a little to trim off; the 2.715m length is for a wide opening, a full room threshold or a run along a corridor, and it works out cheaper per metre. Cut to length on site with a fine-tooth hacksaw or a mitre saw fitted with a non-ferrous blade, and ease the cut edge with a file.
Then the finish. Bright and Designer Satin are the two neutral silvers — Bright is reflective, Designer Satin a softer matt. Brushed Stainless reads cooler and greyer; Pewter is a mid grey. Brushed Brass, Bronze and Light Bronze are the warm options, Light Bronze being the palest of the three. Onyx Black is a flat dark finish for dark floors and black door furniture. If you are matching existing ironmongery, ask us for a sample before committing to a large run: anodised finishes photograph very differently from how they read on site.
Installation, use and care
The surface must be completely free of dust, grease, paint and anything else that would stop the tape bonding; the manufacturer is explicit that assessing and preparing the substrate is the installer's responsibility. Wipe both floor surfaces and let them dry fully. Cut the strip, offer it up dry to check the line, then peel the release liner back and press down from the centre outwards, rolling or weighting it along its full length. Fit at normal room temperature. The manufacturer states the adhesive should not be used where good chemical or UV resistance is required, so keep this profile to internal, dry-shod areas. Clean with a damp cloth and a neutral detergent; avoid abrasives and solvents, which will mark an anodised surface.
FAQ
Do I need to screw it down as well?
No. The strip is supplied undrilled with the adhesive tape already applied, and is designed to be fixed by that tape alone onto a sound, clean, dry substrate. A separately drilled version of the same profile is made for mechanical fixing if your specification calls for one — ask us and we will quote it.
Can I use it over underfloor heating?
Yes. Nothing is drilled or screwed through the floor, so there is no risk to pipes or cables below. The manufacturer gives the adhesive a service temperature range of 0°C to 40°C, which covers normal underfloor heating surface temperatures. Let the floor settle at a steady room temperature before fitting.
Can it be used outside, or in a wet room?
No. The manufacturer states the adhesive should not be used where good chemical or UV resistance is required, so treat this as an internal profile for dry-shod areas. For an external threshold, or one that is regularly wetted and cleaned with chemicals, use a mechanically fixed profile instead.
How wide a gap will 38mm cover?
The strip is 38mm overall and bears on both floor surfaces, so you need landing on each side for the tape to grip. A gap of up to roughly 15–20mm is covered comfortably. Wider joins are better served by a 55mm or 100mm cover plate.
Is the Brushed Brass finish solid brass?
No — it is aluminium with a brushed brass anodised finish. It gives a warm brass tone at a fraction of the weight and cost of a solid brass profile, but it will not develop the patina that real brass does over time. If the specification calls for solid brass, we stock solid brass threshold profiles separately.
Ordering and delivery
Select your finish and length above — every combination is priced on its own and is available to order. UK mainland delivery is a single flat rate however many lengths you buy, so ordering the whole job at once costs no more to deliver than a single strip. The 2.715m lengths travel as a long parcel, so allow for that if delivery access is tight. If you need a continuous run over 2.715m, butt two lengths under the door leaf where the joint will not be seen.
