Description

A heavier solid brass nosing with a choice of three inserts, for stairs that want the weight and finish of brass with grip chosen to suit the traffic.

Three inserts, three jobs

Ridged brass keeps insert and carrier the same metal, so the nosing ages as one piece. The choice where appearance leads on a dry internal stair.

Ridged PVC gives more grip than brass ribs plus a contrasting colour against the metal. It is the softest of the three and burnishes over years of heavy use.

CarbiGrip is aluminium oxide grit in resin: the hardest option, the one for entrances and anywhere footwear arrives wet. It neither polishes smooth nor peels.

Where it is used

Hotel and civic staircases, listed buildings, entrance steps and refurbishment work where an aluminium nosing would look out of place. Brass does not dent under trolley wheels the way a thin-walled aluminium extrusion can, and an antique finish deepens with handling rather than scuffing back to a different colour underneath.

Choosing the right option

Insert. Wet or busy entrance, choose CarbiGrip. Dry internal stair where appearance leads, choose ridged brass. Between the two, choose ridged PVC.

Finish. Satin brushed is contemporary and forgiving of fingerprints; antique brass reads traditional; antique bronze is darkest.

Length. Order the bar that covers your going in one piece, or use the cut-to-size version for anything between 250mm and 2750mm, including the 2.75 m length.

Installation, use and care

Brass is heavy; support long lengths while fixing. The substrate must be sound, clean and dry. Fix at roughly 250-300mm centres with brass screws so the heads match. Clean with a soft cloth and warm water; avoid abrasive creams and acidic cleaners.
