Description
The square-back solid brass nosing in our range, with a choice of three inserts. It is the profile to specify on a new lay or a recovered stair, where the floor covering is brought up to the nosing rather than run underneath it.
Three inserts, three jobs
Ridged brass keeps the nosing monolithic: insert and carrier are the same metal, so the whole assembly ages together. Best where appearance leads and the stair is internal and dry.
Ridged PVC gives more grip than brass ribs and a colour that contrasts against the metal. It is the softest of the three and will burnish over years of heavy traffic.
CarbiGrip is aluminium oxide grit in a resin matrix, the hardest of the three and the one to choose where footwear arrives wet. It does not polish smooth and cannot peel.
Square back or raked back
This profile finishes square at the rear, so a carpet, vinyl or tile edge butts cleanly against it. If you are fitting over a floor covering that is staying put, take our raked back brass nosing instead, whose tapered rear edge lands on top without a lip.

Choosing the right option
Insert. Wet or busy entrance, choose CarbiGrip. Dry internal stair where appearance leads, choose ridged brass. Between the two, or where colour contrast is wanted, choose ridged PVC.
Length. Order the bar that covers your going in one piece, or use the cut-to-size version for anything between 250mm and 2750mm, including the 2.75 m length.
Installation, use and care
Fix the nosing before the floor covering goes down so the covering can be trimmed tight to the square back. Brass is heavy; support long lengths while fixing. Fix at roughly 250-300mm centres with brass screws. Clean with a soft cloth and warm water; avoid abrasive creams and acidic cleaners, which strip an antique finish unevenly.
