Description

GRP Kick Plates (Toe Boards) close the gap beneath handrails and guardrails on elevated platforms, mezzanines, walkways and stair landings, stopping tools, materials and debris from being kicked or knocked off the edge onto people or equipment below. Pultruded from Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP), they give you a corrosion-proof, non-conductive, maintenance-free alternative to painted steel toe boards that never needs repainting, even in wet, chemical or coastal environments.

Manufactured in a rigid W-section profile for maximum stiffness with minimum weight, these kick plates are available in two standard heights — 100mm and 150mm — and two high-visibility colours, Safety Yellow and Steel Grey, so you can match new work to existing GRP handrail systems or colour-code hazard areas.

Why Choose GRP Kick Plates?

  • Meets fall-protection guidance — toe boards/kick plates are recommended wherever people work at height above others, per the Work at Height Regulations and standards such as BS EN ISO 14122 and BS 4592
  • Corrosion-proof — GRP will not rust, rot or corrode, unlike galvanised or painted steel, making it ideal for washdown areas, coastal sites and chemical plants
  • Non-conductive and spark-free — a safer choice than metal around electrical plant or in ATEX-classified areas
  • Lightweight — significantly lighter than steel equivalents, making handling and installation faster and safer
  • High-visibility colours — Safety Yellow for maximum edge visibility, Steel Grey for a discreet, industrial finish
  • Low maintenance — the through-coloured GRP will not need repainting over its service life

Choosing the Right Height

100mm kick plates suit most general walkway and platform edge protection. Where regulations, risk assessments or site standards call for taller edge protection — such as areas with larger tools, loose materials, or higher fall consequence below — choose the 150mm deep profile for extra containment height.

Installation Guide

Kick plates are typically fitted at the base of the guardrail system using standard kick plate clips or brackets fixed to the upright standards, positioning the plate hard against the platform floor to close the gap completely. Cut the 6 metre length to suit each run using a fine-tooth saw suitable for GRP, and butt-joint adjoining lengths at standard positions.

Frequently Asked Questions

100mm is the standard height used on most platforms and walkways. Choose 150mm where your risk assessment or site standard calls for extra containment height, or where larger tools and materials are in use nearby.
Kick plates are fixed to the base of guardrail or handrail upright standards using kick plate clips or brackets (sold separately), holding the plate tight against the platform floor.
Yes, the 6 metre length is easily cut to size with a standard fine-tooth saw suitable for GRP composite materials.
Yes. GRP is fully corrosion-resistant and UV-stable, making it ideal for outdoor platforms, washdown areas and coastal or chemical environments where steel would corrode.
