What is an LVT U-Edging Profile?
An LVT U-edging profile is an anodised aluminium trim strip designed to finish the exposed cut edge of luxury vinyl tile (LVT) or luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring. The U-shaped channel clips over the 5mm edge of the flooring, protecting it from chipping, lifting, and wear while delivering a clean, factory-finished appearance. Used at room perimeters, doorway edges, step noses, and anywhere a LVT floor meets a wall, threshold, or change in level.

Where to Use an LVT Edging Profile
LVT U-edging profiles are used wherever the cut edge of a luxury vinyl floor needs finishing:
- Doorway edges β where LVT meets a door threshold or adjacent room
- Room perimeters β finishing the LVT edge against a wall or skirting line
- Step noses β protecting the front edge of a step covered in LVT
- Bay windows and alcoves β terminating LVT cleanly at recessed areas
- Balcony and conservatory doorways
- Commercial fit-outs β retail, office, hotel corridor edging
β οΈ Important: This profile is designed for 5mm LVT/LVP only. For thicker flooring (6mm+), a wider channel or reducer profile will be required. For transitions between two same-level floors, use a flat threshold strip instead.
How to Install an LVT U-Edging Profile
- Lay the LVT first β ensure the floor is fully installed and the cut edge is clean and straight.
- Measure and cut the edging profile to the required length using a metal saw or angle grinder. File any sharp edges smooth.
- Position the profile β slide the U-channel over the cut edge of the LVT so it grips both sides of the flooring.
- Mark fixing holes through the pre-drilled positions onto the subfloor beneath.
- Remove the profile, drill pilot holes and insert the supplied wall plugs.
- Replace and screw down using the supplied screws. Do not overtighten β the LVT edge should sit comfortably in the channel.
- Check the finish β the profile should sit flush and the LVT edge should be fully enclosed in the U-channel.
Frequently Asked Questions
What flooring thickness does this LVT edging profile fit?
This profile is specifically designed for 5mm luxury vinyl tile (LVT) or luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring. The U-channel is sized to grip 5mm flooring securely. For 6mm or thicker LVT, you will need a wider U-channel profile.
Can this profile be used as a stair nosing on LVT-covered steps?
This profile can be used on the front edge of a step covered in 5mm LVT to cap and protect the nose of the step. However, for dedicated stair safety nosings with anti-slip inserts, a stair nosing profile designed specifically for that purpose is recommended to meet Building Regulations requirements for stair safety.
Do I need adhesive as well as screws?
No. This profile uses a screw-fix system only β screws and plugs are included. Adhesive is not required and not recommended, as the screw fixing allows the LVT to expand and contract naturally with temperature changes.
Can this profile be cut to a shorter length?
Yes. Both the 0.9m and 2.7m lengths can be cut to any shorter dimension using a metal-cutting saw or angle grinder. Always file cut edges smooth to remove burrs before installation.
What is the best colour for light grey LVT?
Silver or Inox work best with light grey LVT. Silver has a brighter polished finish; Inox has a brushed stainless steel appearance that is slightly more understated. For very light or white LVT in a modern setting, Silver is typically the best match.
Is this profile suitable for commercial use?
Yes. Anodised aluminium is fully rated for commercial foot traffic and is widely used in offices, retail environments, hotels, and hospitality settings. The screw-fix system provides a permanent, secure installation that won't work loose under heavy use.
What is the difference between a U-edging profile and a T-bar?
A U-edging profile (this product) is designed to cap and protect a single exposed floor edge β it wraps around the cut end of the LVT. A T-bar transition strip bridges two floor surfaces at a doorway. They serve different purposes: use a U-edging for exposed edges, and a T-bar or flat threshold for floor-to-floor transitions.
How much LVT edging do I need?
Measure the total length of exposed LVT edges that need finishing. The 0.9m length suits individual doorways and short edges. The 2.7m length suits long continuous runs. For a full room perimeter, measure the total perimeter length and divide by 2.7 to estimate how many 2.7m strips you need.
