Tunable White and RGB LED Tape 12V for LED Stair Nosings, IP65

This is the colour-control LED tape for our light-down LED tile-in stair nosing. Choose tunable white to move the light on every riser from a warm 3000K evening glow to a crisp 6000K daylight white, or RGB to wash the staircase in any colour you like. Both run at 12V, are rated IP65 and come in reels from 1m to 5m that sit in the profile's LED channel behind its frosted diffuser. They are controlled with our single-zone remote and powered by the remote-ready 12V LED driver. For a simple fixed natural white, use our natural white tape instead.

Why it works

Tunable white sets the mood

A staircase is used at every time of day. Tunable white lets you run a bright, cool white when the hall is busy and a soft, warm white late at night, from the same tape and the same remote. It packs 120 LEDs per metre, so the line under each step stays smooth.

RGB adds colour

RGB tape mixes red, green and blue to give a full range of colours, controlled and dimmed from the handheld remote. It suits feature stairs in bars, restaurants, cinemas and homes where the lighting is part of the design. It has 60 LEDs per metre and can be cut every 50mm, which makes it easy to fit to the exact width of each step.

Low voltage and protected

Both tapes run at 12V from a separate driver, so only extra-low voltage reaches the stairs, and both are rated IP65 for protection against dust and water jets near floors that are mopped.

Choosing the right option

Choose the type first: tunable white if you want to adjust between warm and cool white, RGB if you want colour. Then choose the length. Each reel has its own lead, so the simplest installation is one reel per step, at least as long as the step is wide: a 1m reel for a 900mm step, a 2m reel for a wider landing step, trimmed at a marked cut point. Next, size the driver: multiply the metres of tape by the watts per metre and choose the next driver size up. Six 1m reels of tunable white tape draw 57.6W, so they need the 100W driver; five metres of RGB tape draw 72W, which also needs the 100W driver. Finally, pick the remote that matches your tape: the tunable white remote for tunable white tape, the RGB remote for RGB. Keep each 12V run to 10m or less.

Installation, use and care

Fit the tape after the profile is bedded and the tiles are grouted. Clean the inside of the LED channel with a surface-preparation wipe and let it dry. Cut only at a marked cut point, peel off the backing, press the tape into the channel and fit the diffuser. Plug the tape leads into the remote controller, which is powered by the remote-ready driver. All mains connections must be made by a qualified electrician, and the driver and controller must stay accessible.

Q: What else do I need?
A: The remote-ready 12V LED driver and the matching single-zone remote dimmer and controller, plus the LED tile-in profile and end caps.

Q: Will the standard driver work with this tape?
A: No. Tunable white and RGB tape need the remote-ready driver and a remote; the standard on-off driver is for natural white tape only.

Q: Can I control different flights separately?
A: The single-zone remote controls one lighting area. For up to four areas, use the multi-zone remote with multi-zone receivers.

Q: Can I cut the tape?
A: Yes, at the marked cut points only. RGB tape can be cut every 50mm.
