Stair Nosings by Shape

The shape of a stair nosing is not just a styling decision. It determines how the profile sits on the step, how much usable tread you keep, and how comfortable the edge feels underfoot.

Square edge profiles have a flat, perpendicular front that follows the line of a square-built step exactly. They preserve the full tread depth and suit modern interiors and commercial fit-outs. Rounded bullnose profiles curve over the front of the tread, which is gentler on the foot, less prone to chipping and the traditional partner for carpeted stairs. Angled rake-back profiles slope backwards with the riser, sitting flush against steps that are not perfectly square and eliminating any protruding lip. Chevron profiles carry a V-patterned grip surface that sheds water and dust, useful on external and industrial steps.

Each shape is available across our materials and sizes, in single and double channel formats, with anti-slip inserts in standard and high-contrast colours for Approved Document K and BS 8300 compliance.
