Description
Aluminium Stair Nosing — 55mm Bullnose, Single Channel, PVC Insert
A precision-engineered stair edge protection profile combining a robust extruded aluminium body with a slip-resistant PVC insert. Designed for indoor staircases in commercial, residential, and public buildings, this bullnose nosing delivers a clean, professional finish while protecting step edges from wear and improving underfoot safety.
This 55mm bullnose aluminium stair nosing is a single-channel profile engineered to protect and define the leading edge of interior stair treads. The smooth, rounded bullnose front provides a comfortable underfoot transition, while the recessed PVC grip insert adds a clearly visible, slip-resistant surface across the full width of the step.
Supplied in three stock lengths — 2.44m, 2.75m, and 3.22m — it can be cut to size on site for a precise fit on both new-build staircases and refurbishment projects. Available in five premium aluminium finishes and three insert colour options, it integrates seamlessly with a wide range of interior schemes. Suitable for use over vinyl, lino, and lightweight carpet floor coverings.

- Brimstone — Exterior Grip: A warm, amber-toned insert that pairs well with gold and bronze aluminium finishes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is this stair nosing used for?
This aluminium stair nosing is fitted to the leading edge of interior stair treads to protect the step edge from wear and damage, improve slip resistance underfoot, and provide a neat, professional finish. It is particularly suited to stairs covered with vinyl, lino, or lightweight carpet.
What are the dimensions of this stair nosing?
The profile has a tread width of 55mm, a riser height of 37mm, and a gauge (material thickness) of 3.5mm. It is supplied in stock lengths of 2.44m (2440mm), 2.75m (2750mm), and 3.22m (3220mm), all of which can be cut to size on site.
Can this nosing be used outdoors?
This profile is designed and recommended for indoor stair applications only. While the PVC inserts carry an exterior grip rating — indicating a high level of slip resistance — the overall profile specification is optimised for internal environments. For outdoor staircases, a profile specifically rated for exterior use is recommended.
How is this stair nosing installed?
The nosing is fixed using a concealed screw-fix method. The aluminium carrier is secured directly to the stair tread through pre-drilled countersunk holes, and the PVC insert is then pressed into the channel to conceal the fixings. Fixings are not included and should be selected to suit the substrate. The profile can be cut to the required length using a standard metal-cutting saw.
Which floor coverings is this nosing compatible with?
This single-channel, 3.5mm gauge profile is designed for use with vinyl, lino, and lightweight carpet floor coverings. The 3.5mm gauge accommodates thinner floor finishes and ensures a flush, secure fit at the stair edge. It is not recommended for use with thicker or heavy-pile carpet.
What finishes and insert colours are available?
The aluminium carrier is available in five finishes: Dark Bronze, Mill Finish, Mirrorflect Gold, Satin Black, and Satin Gold. The PVC grip insert is available in three colours: Brimstone, Coal, and Everest — all rated to exterior grip standard. Finishes and insert colours can be mixed and matched to suit your interior design scheme.
