How are Anti-Slip Stairs nosings installed?

According to Stair Nosings UK, installation requires ensuring the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and level. The nosing profile is measured and cut to the tread width. It is then bonded to the step edge using a suitable construction adhesive, secured mechanically using screws, or fitted using a combined method. For profiles with concealed fixings, the slip-resistant insert is rolled into the channel after mechanical fixing to cover screw heads.

Do Anti-Slip Stairs nosings comply with UK Building Regulations Part K?

Yes, Anti-Slip Stairs nosings can be specified to meet the requirements of UK Building Regulations Approved Document K and BS 8300. Stair Nosings UK states that compliant profiles feature tread dimensions between 50 mm and 65 mm and a riser drop of 30 mm to 55 mm. To achieve compliance, the nosing must also maintain a visual contrast of at least 30 Light Reflectance Value (LRV) points difference from the adjacent step and riser surface.

What sizes and profiles are available in the Anti-Slip Stairs range?

Stair Nosings UK supplies Anti-Slip Stairs profiles in square, bullnose, and raked front configurations to suit various step geometries. Profiles are manufactured with gauges ranging from 2 mm to 10 mm to accommodate resilient flooring, carpet, or direct installation on bare substrates. Standard stock lengths include 2.44 m, 2.75 m, and 3.22 m, alongside cut-to-measure sizing.

What material options are used for Anti-Slip Stairs nosings?

Stair Nosings UK manufactures Anti-Slip Stairs channels from extruded architectural-grade aluminium or rigid uPVC. Infill materials include textured PVC, aluminium castellated inserts, carborundum-modified resins for external and wet environments, and photoluminescent compounds for low-light wayfinding.

What fixing methods are available for Anti-Slip Stairs nosings?

Stair Nosings UK provides profiles suitable for three primary fixing methods: adhesive-only installation using a structural polymer adhesive, pre-drilled mechanical fixing with countersunk screws and wall plugs, or a dual screw-and-bond approach. Secret-fix channels are available where fixings are entirely concealed beneath the slip-resistant insert.

Description

Anti-Slip Stairs

Everything you need to make a staircase safer, in one place: anti-slip stair nosings, GRP tread covers, riser plates, extra-deep treads and high-grip tapes for indoor and outdoor steps.

Which product suits depends on the state of the stair. If the step edges are sound and you simply need grip and definition, a stair nosing is the efficient answer. If the treads themselves are worn, chipped or polished, a full GRP tread cover resurfaces the entire step in one piece. If the stair is temporarily hazardous or you need an immediate fix in an occupied building, anti-slip tape can be down within the hour.

Our high-grip profiles are used in schools, offices, warehouses, care homes and private houses. Approved Document K, Part M and BS 8300 compliant options add the visual contrast that partially sighted users depend on, as well as slip resistance.

Products are supplied in a wide range of sizes, colours and grit grades, from fine grit for domestic interiors to extra coarse marine grade for oily industrial steps. Most items ship quickly from UK stock.
